I have some rants. I first attended Pedro's back in 99, they had it on that nice farm in Lanesboro, the camping was great because it was a huge open and mostly flat space. Unfortunately there were a few houses nearby and folks bitched about the noise at night. I know there were some groups that caused more havoc than others and after going to the event on that site for 3 years in a row, the organizers lost the farm. In my opinion, when they changed the location to the cross country ski area in 2002, the atmosphere changed for the worse. At that point, about 80% of the camping was on a hill, it was a bitch setting up the site and trying to level anything was a major pain in the ass. In my opinion, 2002 also sucked because the dealers did not seem to bring as much stuff to sell and there really weren't many bargains like previous years. 2002 was also the last year I went because they ran out of water for the showers and bike wash, it was a very muddy year and you had to go through a mud bog with your vehicle to get out of the campsite.
Granted, this is a weekend designed for camping and riding, so amenities are not expected, but when I paid 75 bucks and was expecting to take a shower after a day of riding in the mud on Sat and Sunday, running out of water is not acceptable. They got money from every single person who attended, so they knew how many people they needed water for. I sent emails complaining about the problems I had, never got any reply from them, but I guess that is because my check cleared.

I think I saw a blurb on OLN about it that year (MUDFEST).
It was also muddy at the 24 hours of GG that year.

I'm going. I went last year for the first time and loved it! It rained on friday, but saturday and sunday were a blast. If you want a flat site, get there early.

I went for the first time last year and had a great time. My group will be back again this year and I'm bringing the kids, too. We had a blast. I guess it's who you're with and what you make of it.

I think the opinions on Pedro's are as varied as the paticipants. It is best to go and form your own opinion. Hooking up with folks who enjoyed it in the past and in who's company you feel confortable is the best hedge against having a bad time.

As for me, my first trip was the 2002 mud bog suck fest. I will probably never return. With all the MTB rideing and camping opertunities to choose from, and having to choose only a few to do, it would take alot to bring Pedro's to the top of my list.

I did hear raves regarding both the lobster and the blind/amnesia from the Evil Bota camper though.

Yes the riding is second on the fun chart, but Steve B took us on a nice little ride 20 minutes from the camp and it was AWESOME. I would go back to Pedro’s just to ride that park again.. Plus the food, drink and most importantly the company was great.. Dan you are welcome to join us in our debauchery.......

I've had my tickets for months! Will be my first time, and I'm bringing my kid, who doesn't like to ride much. So he can take care of the littler ones when us older folk are getting hammered.

I went last year for the first time & had a blast. Pretty good (not top notch, but still good) trails, lots of fun & interesting people, & watched the TdeF on the big screen Sat night with many beers & new friends. That was the night that skinny French kid dug deepdeepdeep to keep the jersey for one......more.....day. Everybody in the tent was going crazy cheering for him, even though Lance & Basso won the stage, like 7 minutes ahead of him. Epic suffering, that kid looked like he wanted to die but just couldn't figure out how to manage it. Anyone remember that?

Anyway, Pedrosfest is a big time. Be prepared for crowds, some rowdy behavior, & lines for showers. If you expect it ahead of time I suppose it won't bother you that much. I enjoyed it. Bring plenty o' beers, too.

Don't (repeat: Do Not) let pk lure you into a road ride Sat afternoon. Thats the only part of the weekend I regretted. complete destruction.

I hope to go this year and maybe bring my kids. What experiences have people had with bringing younger children to the fest? Are the evening activities somewhat controlled?

I went last year, it was calm. The most activity was in the middle of the venue where the band plays by the main tent. It's about as calm as Warner. ;)

Only go if you are interested in having a really good time.

First time I went was the mudfest year of 2003. Had a great time.

I went last year. Had even a better time.

Think it all has to do with the people you go with, the people you find to hang out with. Sometimes you ride as well.

Despite the party-atmosphere, the scene is pretty much kid friendly. The people are respectful. No real a-holes. Real mellow. You can just put on a good buzz and wander around. You'll meet some very decent and cool people.

Now a two-year vet, I have wisdom I can share:

Get drunk Wednesday night, before you get to Pedro's. THe first hangover of a bender is always the roughest. Get it out of the way. That way, on Friday morning, after a night of refreshing yourself, you can ride. And on Saturday it is barely noticable. On Sunday even better. And on Monday, congrats, you are now an alcoholic.

Sounds like a plan. We're bringing two types of tequila, one for sipping, one for margaritas. We went through a handle of Cuervo in record time last year.

However, I prefer to wait until after riding.

See you there.

Nothing to apologize for. I'm 100% sure you would rather be going to Pedro's than your local medical facility. How long did they say before you can ride again? ???

Gears, SS, gears

it's simple!

The bike situation is simple...that's about 7,000 calories though. Figure 3-4 hours for the Mavic 30, 1 hour for the SS ride, then two hours for the DR ride....all with no time for breaks in between. That's seven hours on the bike(s). I bet I sweat a quarter pound of salt in that time.

Wait...a solution is coming to me.... Ride the Mavic 30 really early saturday morning. Done by 11 am. Eat a small cow. Sleep for an hour. Hit up SS ride at 1:30, back to central grounds at 2:30 for DR ride. After DR ride, get carried back to camp, eat a large flock of turkeys. Sleep till tuesday in the nude with legs spread and fire extinguisher aimed at grundel. :o

I did the same thing this weekend...except I drove from NH to ME to get some Bar Harbor Brewing Cadillac Mountain Stout. That's as close to beer perfection as it gets, folks. Thick, creamy with a hint of bitterness... By bringing a good stout, I save on my food costs, too. ;)
