thanks to Narlus.
Over the winter I sent Narlus several installment payments, and then proceeded to find great deals on a Cane Creek S2 headset, and a barely used 2002 Rockshox Duke SL 100mm fork and now I have a new to me Ted Wojcik FS bike in my stable.
I'm either going to run it with dual v-brakes or perhaps V-brake in the rear, Avid Mechanical up front, hence the lack of a front brake in the photo.
Initial impressions are that I'm going to dig this rig.

Sweet ride.
Ted is super cool and made (makes?) some killer frames.

Hey McAskalot -
I think you'll dig the bike, too. My Ted Softride was my trail companion, my best buddy for 8(!) years before it was time to put him into semi-retirement. (Maybe it's time for me to take him for another spin, it's been a while!)
By the way, the latest Dirt Rag has an interview with Ted. He's back building bikes again.
PS - Arm of Fire, I dig your avatar!

Z - I saw that article and I saw that there may be a 5" and 5" type of FS bike in the works from Ted. That's pretty cool.
The front triangle of this bike is awesome - so clean. And the Battle Rear end is pretty nice too. Overall I'm impressed.
What kind of shock are you running on your Ted??
Take care,
Mark

Mark,
Looks nice. "New to me" is a nice way to keep it interesting. The hard part now is deciding what to ride when.

Speaking of Ted's FS design----I have a buddy who owns one thats hardly ever been ridden--I rode ita month ago, and it looked brand new to me....looked I said...then I rode it....still, its new with decent parts on it, and he'll let it go fairly cheep, for what it is.....looks like MMcG 's but different colors and its a 18.5" frame, just an inch too big for me :'( otherwise it'd be mine.......great bb clearance, long top tube, steel front, aluminum rear Battle triangle.
Any more details or pics let me know.........

The shock works fine, although I mistakenly cracked the cool Die (that's singular for dice right?) that was the valve cap. :-\

I believe that's right.
I didn't intend to bag on the shock - I just remember riding with a couple guys way back when who had AMPs. They worked great, but you could always clearly hear the hissing sound from the shock every time it compressed or extended.
fssss...fssss...fsss....fssss all down the trail :)

They switched from Amp to Battle in the mid 90's, which was definitely a good move. The Amp was way flexy.
Despite that, many people still had problems. I think the design puts too much side loading on the shock, which isn't meant to be a structural member. I guess I wouldn't recommend the bike for big dudes.
But for me, I never had problems with it -- well, in 8 years I had to have the shock rebuilt ONCE, which isn't bad -- I loved the bike!
I just like to think it was my finesse and riding style that prevented it from breaking! ;) ha ha

good old AMPhesema! the Battle rear end looks to be much better than the Amp rear...and the Risse shock is no doubt worlds better. Amp moved and were light but thats about all you coudl say about them.

We've had three Teds in the household and loved all of them. Two of the three were customs, so they fit PERFECTLY!
The AMP-style system is definitely out of date... but rides really well. I think Ted is developing a new system --can't wait to see.
One thing I remember Ted mentioning to me about buying bikes still echoes in my head: "Never give your money to a jerk." True enough, and Ted ain't no jerk! ;D

According to the Dirt Rag article Ted has a 5 and 5 type of FS bike design in the works.
He's also still doing steel hardtails - I know this because I emailed him with questions on my frame and just for kicks asked for a price quote on a hardtail that would be designed around a Fox Vanilla 125 type fork. He provided me with a quote that was an estimate - as much of it would be determined by tubing he would use base on my weight and riding style (does crashing a lot count as a style?).
His email response to me was very informative and helpful. He seems like a super cool guy and I feel fortunate to have one of his bikes thanks to the generosity of Narlus (good peeps!). 8)
