OK I want to get my wife into MTB. BUT not sure if she'll even ride or how often. So do I just rent a bike from the Local shop for a week and see what she does($70)? Should I buy a cheap MTB bike from A department store for now ($200) or do I buy her a low end Bike store MTB say ($400 -$500). Now my wife is short 5' tall and still trying to get her to go with me to the shop and get sized for a bike. Just she works till 5- 6 pm and gets home pretty tired then kids dinner etc.. So for her it would be just a weekend riding when we can get a sitter for the kids ::) Unfortunatly I would rather spend any amount On my own bike but I'm selfish.

Not sure if any of you have similar problems like work kids etc...
;D
Thanks
Shawn ;) ;) ;)

have her demo a bike. many people can get turned off from mountain biking by riding a crappy bike. visit all of the shops around you and have your wife scope out a bike she likes. then ask about a demo program.

I had my Girlfriend check out a bunch of bikes in several shops to see what fit best and what she liked. Then got a used one that had most of the features she liked on ebay. I figured if the whole riding thing fell through I could just put it right back on ebay and recover what I spent. It worked out for her she got a 2 year old stump jumper for a couple hundred and she likes the sport.

thanks for the replies, we ended up getting a basic TREK4300 for 350 at the LBS. I would have done the ebay part but we wanted a bike for this past Sundays vietnam ride. It worked out pretty good she went down a couple times in Vietnam but she is OK.

Thanks

After having a few days to heal, how does she feel about mountain biking? Is she still interested in riding? We should get together and do some easier trails.

Yes, I got it. Maybe we can look into riding in Rhode Island this weekend, ending with a meal at the chicken farm.

It would have to be Sunday? I work Sat. :'( If we make plans I can work on getting a babysitter for the morning. Arcadia is the only decent place I know of to ride in RI. And I don't know the trails all that well. I do have the GPS though. Arcadia is about 40 min. away from me. Douglas State Forest in MA. is only about 15 miles away from me and I don't know any of it.

Myself and Tom both work on Saturdays also, so Sunday is the only day we have to ride. I've never been to Arcadia or Douglas. Either is good.
