Looking to buy some tools and stand to start repairing my own ride... I have seen all the park tools and stands. are the tool kits worth to buy or will regular tools do the job??

in the long run, its worth it to drop the cash for that large tool kit that park tool offers. once you become a more experienced mechanic and youll need more tools. as for the stand, get one that has a sturdy base and a good clamping mechanism. i have a pedros stand and its very sturdy, but the clamping mechanism leaves something to be desired. i suggest a stand like this. my friend has one and ive used it and its very good.

i don't like the idea of buying the kits. cuass you end up buying tools you will never use. Just look at what you need now or in the near future and you should be good

When you buy tools, spend the money for True Blue. The less expensive tools will only let you down. I purchased inexpensive tools, only to later have to re-purchase the tool in Blue.

Well I went out and bought a park pcs 1 stand and the AK32 park tool kit. it 's like christmas for me with all these kool new tools. found a pretty kool LBS who matched the prices i found on the internet for the stuff.. already started working my ride. the chain cleaner works great but it takes a little time to get used to it.. thanks for the input ..now I need to buy the big blue book to learn how to use the new toys..

I'm pretty sure I have the pcs-1 stand. (it was a gift). It's pretty good, but I don't like the legs. It will fall over backwards easily with no bike weighing it down. A couple sandbags on the feet would help, but I'd prefer something with 3 telescoping legs. The business end is nice, I will say.

I also have the inexpensive home stand, whatever number that is. It does tend to be unstable without a bike on it, but I rarely have an empty stand.
For what I use it for, it is perfect, and I can't justify buying another stand when this one works perfectly well.
