Hi all,
There is someone writing an article for SingleTracks about NEMBA members who are doing great things for mountain biking and the trails outside of the normal NEMBA channels.
Do you know people who are actively engaged in their local ConsComs, trail organizations, school systems, or other volunteer programs? I know there are lots out there and I have a good list in my head already ... but I'm sure there are also many NEMBA members doing great things that I'm not aware of.
Please send me an email if you got a good lead.

thanks,

I think PK means organized non-biking agenda trail groups such as friends groups and hiking clubs that build hiking trails, equestrian groups, and I'd go further and add moto groups.
I've never seen any trail day information on any of the trails I've ridden or the physical bulletin boards at the parks before. Hmmmm where have I heard of doing that recently???
If I had seen a notice, I would probably join.

I'm in boyscouts, we do a fair amount of voluenteer work,
My eagle project is going to be a hiking only trail in wompatuck.
I also think that the friends of wompatuck would be a great group to focus on, they represent all sorts of outdoor activites, and work to generally restore the park together, I stopped by the booth on bluehills mtb day, and they've really got their act together. I hope to go to a meeting sometime, but my schedual has conflicted all of them so far, I'm hoping to go to next month's meeting though.
On a side note, I'm doing the appilation service project this summer. We're going to tenesse to fix people's houses.

There are many individuals, or even groups that help maintain many of the mtb, hiking, and equestrian trails within the countless state parks. Many of whom do it solely to give back something from which (or where) they have received something in return.
Many of the same people wish to remain nameless to the multitudes. They have contributed their time and effort to maintain something that can be enjoyed by others that use it. Some just want to keep busy, enjoy the fresh air, and maybe meet a new person out for a walk or ride, and say "Hi".
As Geoff G. states, a state park 'firends' group does (or should) involve all park uses. All park users should give something back in return for using the 'parks' resources.
How hard is it to attend one NEMBA trail maintenance day, or spend a couple of hours on your own picking up 'trail trash', and bringing it to the trash can at the trail head. Couldn't you stop and talk to a hiker someday.
Don't forget to keep your dog on a leash while at the state park, and remember to pick up after him/her.
Many people make the work go by much faster, and that much more can be done.

yeah, trail care days rule! You have so much fun that it barely feels like you're working, and it feels good to give back to the trails. I think that it should be mandatory for all nemba members.

PK,
Are you familiar with Mill Pond Resv in Wilmington? There is a person named Unai who cuts and maintains the trail all by himself.
He is an avid biker and a legend.
You can email him at ugathome@comcast.net.
