on this day in 2003, on his official website, KISS bassist Gene Simmons blasts musicians and actors who have spoken out recently against the U.S. war in Iraq ... says Gene, "I don't think celebs make very much impact with the masses at all" ... this despite the fact that Simmons has used his site twice before to voice his support for the operation, going so far as to say," ...everyone who is marching today in a war protest can line up to my left to suck my b***s"...

He should've said celebs have no impact on the THINKING masses. Only children and morons worship celebrities.
Pretty sure old Gene has always been drug free, surprisingly enough.

Finally something we can wholeheartedly agree on. I never got the KISS thing. Pop rock. NOT METAL! Music made to be played on commercial radio. Everything about Kiss has been about commercialism, which is fine. That was their niche. But don't try to tell me that it's quality music.
Simmons was recently on an episode of Apprentice. (Yes, I watch that stupid show. ) What a total dick.
Was it not telling that when Kiss decided they were going to make a go of it sans makeup, their popularity suffered amongst their fanbase. I guess without the buffoonery to distract from the bad music, people were starting to catch on.

Their music wasn't all that good, but back in the day, they had one of the best stage shows going.

Spinal Tap was great, but I saw it targeting more the Led Zepplins and other more pompous arena bands. Kiss, in my mind, came later, focusing more on show, and less on silly attempts at deep meaning. With that, came fewer chords and rythm changes.
But, whatever floats your boat.

Well all I can say is that it's a hell of a lot better than todays Cookie Monster vocalists & angry (my father ignored me as a child) gothic grindcore emo whatever the hell ya call it noise of today.
Talk about lack of musicianship

Everything about popular music today lacks in musicianship. Just look at what sells the most. Hip hop. Probably the single least artistic form of so-called music that exists. Steal samples of music from everybody else, back it with a throbbing, bassy rhythm and make up some witty rhymes that touch on areas of sex and violence.
It hasn't been good for some time now. The whole Nirvana grunge movement from 10 or so years ago pretty glorified the lack of musicianship. All of these nu-rock bands of commercial radio are extensions of it. No more guitar solos. No real attempt at doing something original. I challenge anyone to argue the merits of what passes for pop music in any genre.
You can mostly dismiss the music of the skateboarding culture. That's just a result of doing too many drugs and/or getting too many concussions.
Those who enjoy real music know enough to ignore the mainstream and branch out into the fringes of whatever genre grabs you. The internet has been an absolute savior thanks to the capability to sample lots of new and different music. Real musicians still exist, mostly in the jazz and progressive rock and metal genres. It's not difficult to find. Why anyone over the age of 25 would waste money on the crap that commercial radio endorses is way beyond me. I just wish I could find a decent download service with a wide selection of the good music.

Spinal Tap or the Kiss movie where they battles the phantom (or somebody) in the amusement park? That was frikkin classic.
I've heard a lot of good stuff on satellite radio - gotta pic one of those things up soon.
