View Full Version : Moving Avatars
April 19th, 2005, 10:27 PM
As a person still on a dial up connection in a building with old staticy phone lines i must protest the use of moving avatars.
I may be the only one left on a dial up but please can we not have the movies.
thanks for your consideration

Geeze Bill, you need to step into the '90's and get a faster connection.

C'mon Quo -- we're talking about someone here who refuses to give up denim.

ok I will make this pretty simple for JustBill
just block the images from loading.
----------------
set some time aside you will be doing some initial
downloading...
get and use firefox browser, install Adblock plugin
now when you see an avatar that is animated,
right click it, select 'adblock image', and from that
point on, your browser will never attempt to load
that image. you can do this with any junk on
teh intarweb. once you have adblock blocking
most of the bandwidth hogging images, you are
clear sailing.
you can even block most of all the Nemba logos
and sidebars and anything else that doesn't change,
which will speed up all your browsing.
you can find adblock filters which will nuke almost
all the ads on the entire 'net too. go to your favorite
sides and adblock away at things. streamline.
so.....what are you waiting for ? do it, and then tell
us the results. this WILL work fine.

I thought there was a ban on how big your avatar could be?
Can I start using this?

I gotta say I think about-to-die kitty and sniper kitty are very cool.
AOF - It's been 20 years since I've thrown a baseball. If your calling the bullpen for me, I'll need a little warmup time. ;)
You're a lucky guy to have that shot!

Is the next photo of the Boston P.D. & Red Sox grounds crew chasing you?
Ha just kidding. That is a cool shot for sure.

How about this one?
I "volunteered" to be on the flag crew. This was last Sunday preparing for the Patriots day game.
They let you go pretty much anywhere in the park, just stay off the grass!
Sorry to derail the thread.

Bill,
Don't let the evil tech. hord get you down, faster isn't always better and denim will be around long after those silly synthetic's, like "carbon fiber" their just fads, so resist change at all cost!!!! ;D. But i have to say I do like the kitty with the rifle. "getto kitty goes on shooting spree after dial up connection fails.....more on this story after the local weather"

Hey wait just a second denim is still cool. I would never ever dream of wearing any type of cycling clothing other than helmet and gloves! And carbon fiber? It makes me sick to think about ( I still am in love with Cromo). The worst carbon fiber offenders are the no-pivot bikes where the frame flexes. Worse still is they have lefty forks :'(

I'm with Bill..........movies as avytars are dumb, and a waste of bandwidth unless its a sunglass wearing pig (and an under 5k gif file)
and no I'm not on dialup (T1 here)
