Getting a new bike this year, havn't really biked in awhile but I'd like to get into some good Mountain Biking.

One of the things I want to get for my bike is a Cyclometer but i'm concerned about durability on the trail. Does anyone have experience using cyclometers off road? How serious of a ride can they handle?

Any recommendations on brands and models that are esspecialy good (or not good) for off road use would be great.

I use the Cateye Enduro, it has a heavier wire and holds up well.

I currently use a Planet Bike 9.0
I like it because it has alot of info on one screen, and I can use it on my MTN and road bikes.

It also has the current temp, which I like cause I'm a HVAC geek.

I always use wireless models for off road use. They work great and I don't have to worry about catching the wire on a stick.

No computers on off-road bikes. Ever. Too depressing.... :'(

Also, I had a bad run 2 years ago, lost 3 harnesses in 2 months. no mas....

For the road bikes I have a cateye astrale. Fun to look at cadence, esp on the fixie....

Ah Ha. That's what happens when you don't go wireless off road!

I run wired offroad with a Sigma Sport BC800. It works fine. I haven't ever felt the overwhelming need to go wireless because I just run the front brake cable and then the wire along that cable encased in electrical tape... nothing to get snagged.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm leaning towards the heavy duty cable on the Cateye Enduro 8, and run it up the brake cable. If I snag my brake cable good enough to rip that offf, I think replacing the computer will be the least of my worries ;D

I've got a BC800 wireless on my freeride bike, and a BC800 wired on my all mountain bike. Wireless is fine, but I have to remember to start it up when I take off, or it doesn't count the mileage.

My vote goes to wireless. Snagging wires wasn't my problem; the wires would get brittle and break within a year. This happened on both road and mountain bikes. I'm not sure if this was from winter riding, or just routine exposure to the elements.

all of them work fine offroad.

but I always prep them at install

prep the wires. wherever a wire connects, blob some
household goop glue on it at least 1/2 inch. this will
ensure wires can take a more serious beating without
issue
