OK I bought my new Ironhorse and its been sitting in my kitchen. Now every time I look @ it something doesn't seem right. So i notice that the wide end of the rear shock is facing down and the rebound damper is really close to the frame. I'm thinking that when the shock fully compresses it my just hit.
So I go look @ a picture of the bike on the net and the shock is wide end up . So now I look @ pictures of other bikes with that shock and their all wide end up. So I send an e-mail to 5th element and the reply is that the shock is on right. Either the guy was drunk when he looked at it or I'm wrong. Does any one know if this is right?

The shock mounting in those pictures looks the same - are you sure you're not standing on your head?
More seriously, it doesn't look to me as though the arc of the upper shock pivot will move much forward of where it is as it goes through the travel - maybe about 1/2 inch or so tops? So it doesn't look as though the knob will hit your down tube.
Still, better to be safe, so you could take out the top shock bolt and compress the suspension, then swing the shock forward until the upper barrel is centered on the bolt hole, and see if the knob hits.

They are 180 deg out of phase.
However, the rocker doesn't look like it has enough swing to make the red valve hit your frame.
If it bothers you alot, switch it around, it will work either way (I hope).

I think your right and it shouldn't take much to switch it around.
How do you like that bike? and Where did you buy it? I am starting to look around for a new frame and that looks sweet.

If the other pictures you are talking about are all adverts or catalog or from a magazine then i think they are staged with the shock in the wrong position so that the printing on the shock is readable and therefore advantageous to the shock manufacturer.
You could take a hair dryer and warm up the sticker, remove it, and restick it so it dosent pester you while you are sitting there "looking" at your new bike.
I bet then when you look at the shock from a "riding" position it will be readable.

Well I got an answer form Ironhorse. Dude said it doesn't matter up or down.It a preference thing. I brought it down to my LBS and ajusted the derailers. Not very impressed with sram so far. My shimanos seemed alot more responsive.
I will give it a fair shake before I change anything.
I figure next weekend for my first ride.. Need another week on the road to get my chest pains to a minimum..lol
Thanks for the input..

make sure you give the sram a shot. switched from shitmano last year in May to x9 trigger, xo rear derailleur have not had to adjust once after i got them dialled in.

Rear seems ok.I still don't think its a crisp and quick as my xtr,but the front is not cutting it. I just ajusted my shocks for sag and stiffness.. Ready to ride this coming weekend.

Evil, like you I've been riding my GT hardtail and LeMond road bike on the road to get a base level of fitness. I took my FSR to the forest today and couldn't believe how out of shape I felt. It will come back quick I know but there is no substitute for the real thing ;) I also don't have my new ride put together just yet. The front deraileur was the wrong style and I had to order another one. I might have this thing ready to ride this weekend.
