Well, each year I get some gizmo for the bike to entice me to actually ride. 8)

Last year, it was a used coil rear shock(5th).
This year, I'm trying this Gravity dropper seatpost.
All the info is here: http://www.gravitydropper.com/
Anyone else try one?

First try today. Takes a lil getting used to and cost 3 times what it should. It's the old idea of ride the seat at full extension and drop down at the flick of a switch.

I'm now able to keep my seat up higher than I ever would. This feels much better on the knee to get more extension. Low seat is stressful on the knees. Dropped it down the 3 inches for the downhills.

30 day money back guarantee ... we'll see if it stays.

I saw that on MTBR and checked out the video and remember the price was prohibitive to say the least. Please keep me posted as to your satisfaction. I'd like that kind of adjustment although 3 inches doesn't sound like enough.

How much was it?

Turns out I'm going to return the gravity dropper seat post.
It just never quite fit right for me.

The product does work tho, and great support from company. They let me try a couple diff sizes.

They have 2,3,4 inch drops now.
Big cost at $250, but nice to try it out.

Just last week my knee was a little sore so I had my seat post higher than normal, and it felt good...but the downhill parts were a little uncomfortable.

The price isn't cheap, but if it really works well, it would be worth it to avoid long term knee problems.

What was wrong with it?

Hey Ben.
Sorry for my slo response here.
The seatpost does work as advertised.

What I found was, when the seat was in the up position it was a good deal higher than I would normally ride. When it was dropped it was a good deal lower than I would normally ride. So it's 2 new positions to get used to.
You can only lower the seatpost so much, cuz the magnet unit sticks out.

I tried a 2inch drop as well. Seat height was good ,but it's such a little drop change that it did not justify the cost. The 4 inch drop just would not have done it for me. Bike geometry is a factor I suppose.

I'm back to my normal post and seat position and it feels better than either of the 2 positions I had with the Dropper.

Take my input as just one data point.
They told me I was the first person to ever return one.

Let's just say I believe them, and most people are quite happy with the unit.
You can try it and be refunded if not happy.

More importantly ....
You're due for a cameo apperance on the Thurs nite Nam ride there buddy. ;)

Thanks for the info. I'm tempted to try one. I feel like I can manevuer (eg wheelies, mini-drops, lean back) so much better with a low seat, but I have a strong suspesion my knees are paying the price.

I've been wanting to...I'll have to duck out of work early soon...or bribe splat to bump the start time back up to 8PM....::)
