My Fox Float RL shock stopped holding air and I was about to bring it to a shop when I found (while looking for something else) a "rebuild kit" in a ziploc in my junk box. Like Buffet's tatoo, how it got here I haven't a clue, but I'm thinking I can save a jillion dollars by resealing this unit myself. The kit has instructions and apparently all the rubber seals and nylon rings I need.

Any advice from someone who did this before? Will it work or should I just do the smart thing and take it to a shop? Do I need special tools? What kind of lube should I use on the seals?

The one special tool you need - a 26mm socket with no chamfer. Without it the nut at the top of the fork leg gets ruined by using an adjustable wrench. Bike Parts sells it for $6.95. The seal kit goes for $21 and you should also replace your dust seal and that's $15 for parts. Enduro Seals website has excellent how to instructions. Plan for an hour or two to do the job.

FYI Push Industries gets $129 + shipping for this job.

It's not a fork, it's a rear shock.

You're right. What do I have to lose?
