My Hayes HFX-9 XC hydro have been acting up lately. The rear brake is the problem. After riding the brake a bit downhill, when I let up on the lever, I hear "scrape scrape scrape scrape". Yah know, like the rotar is hitting the pads. The pads aren't too old, still plenty of stopping material on them. I just had the caliper lined up about 1 1/2 weeks ago, so I don't really know whats going on.

One last thing: how can you tell when a rotar needs replacing?

It could be that the rotor itself is a bit warped. Spin the wheel while looking down on it and see if you can see a wobble. If this is the case, you can use an adjustable wrench to gently bend it back into shape.

Sounds like a bent rotor.
