Hey, anyone here in Mass into shooting? I've been thinking of trying it, but no nothing about guns. Can you just join a gun club/shooting range and they have guns you can use? What do I have to go through to buy my own small firearm? I hear Mass is tough. Damn liberals!!!

There's a gun club on Rt20 in Worcester called Boston Gun Range http://www.bostongunrange.com/ I've never been but it looks like a decent place.

If your just starting out with shooting, it may be wise to get an airgun first. I know what your thinking, airguns are the little toy BB guns most kids have. Well, once you get into multi-pump designs and use lead pellets, airguns pack a lot of power. Granted they don't come close to the power of a real fire arm, but they'll give you a taste and the laws are MUCH less restrictive about airguns. Besides, an airgun is much, much quieter.

These guns are incredible. I shot several of those guns in new york, the blue streak can shoot through 2 litre soda bottles filled with ice at 150ft!

Personally, I own a Daisy Powerline 880. Smaller gun, but still fun.

Here's the lowdown on MA firearms laws. You must have a License to Carry (LTC) to own/purchase any firearm. To get an LTC, you'll need to take either a hunter's safety course or a pistol safety course, depending on the type of gun you want to own. Then you go through the licensing process. Plan on about an 8 week wait to get the LTC approved, provided you have zero criminal record. If any criminal convictions, you stand little chance of getting the LTC.

To try a gun before getting into the training or ownership, call Smith & Wesson in Springfield. They used to have a program where you could rent a gun and shoot in the range. (Unsure if they still offer this). If you live near a gun club, stop in and ask for a lesson, gun owners love to teach proper handling and safety to potential gun owners.

Even better .go to your local PD and tell them you want a license to carry permit. They will give you the low down on how and what you need to do. Most likely they will direct you to a nra instructor to get certified. If the instructor is worth a salt he'll take you to his local range and teach you gun safty and let you shoot off a few round before you take your test. The test consist of shooting a revoler and a automatic pistol. Its about $100-$120
for the course. Once you take the course you will know if its something you would like to get into .If not it will be a good experiance for you case you come accross a weapon and it needs to be handle properly. Guns are alot of fun,but you need to be on the ball all the time..look @ this moron who is Officer.
This is what happens when you get to complacent.

That imbicile should have had his badge & gun taken away for life as a result of that incident. So it's back to dealing drugs for you jerk off as you obviously don't have the smarts to do anything else to make money. >:(

I don't care how much training or empowerment you've been given. A classroom full of kids is no place to be handling a loaded weapon, demonstration or not.
the gun stays holstered!

In addition ....Somebody should have that a$$wipe dreadlock'd mofo strapped to a chair & then let the kids in the class play Russian Roulet with a large bore wheel gun to his forehead -as that is exactly what was done by letting that dumba$$ into that class with a loaded weapon. That bullet could have ricocheted off of a flat surface & landed in some kids head!

Frigging mongoloid!

TrailBait,

It's just not worth it to own a gun in MA anymore.
The fees & hair/teethpulling they make you go through just to own one are not worth the hassle. The Anti Gun grabbing liberals have won. Now only criminals have guns LOL!

"Hey Paco can ya get me a heater? Ya sure gringo got $50?

My advice if you just want to get your rocks off & shoot for sport is to just drive over the border to Manchester NH & join a place called the Manchester Firing Line LLC: http://www.gunsnh.com/

They can rent you whatever gun you dream of -even class 3 full auto's to shoot for however long you want for a fee.

I guess I'll just have to move to Maine. I think up there all you have to do is walk into a gun shop with your driver's license, and you can walk out with whatever you want....

You need a LICENSE in mass to carry PEPPER SPRAY??

And if the police chief decides you just don't need a gun, he doesn't have to give you a license. WTF???

How do I apply for a License to Carry Firearms?

The applicant needs to completely fill out and sign the form entitled "Application for New/Renewal of a Firearms Identification Card or License to Carry Firearms." An application is available at the any police department within Massachusetts. The applicant also needs to fill out the form entitled "Acknowledgement of Limits on the Use of Deadly Force." This form is part of a complete Applicant for Firearms License kit that is available at the Bolton Police Department. An applicant must also submit all of the following:

Three 1"x1" photographs of the applicant.

First time applicants must also furnish written references of

two parties stating the applicant is of suitable character.

Proof of citizenship. i.e., birth or naturalization certificate.

A copy of any previously issued FID or LTC.

First time applicants must provide certification from a Firearms Training Safety Course (except for pepper/mace FID cards).

Are there any Costs involved?

Yes, a twenty-five (25) dollar check made payable to the Town of Bolton is required unless the applicant is over age 70 or for those FID cards restricted to the possession of pepper spray, mace or other incapaciting sprays.

Who may be issued a License to Carry Firearms?

According To Massachusetts General Laws, chapter 140, section 131, the Chief of Police "may issue to a person residing or having a place of business {not just being employed} within their respective jurisdiction, a license to carry firearms in the commonwealth, if it appears that the applicant is a suitable person to be so licensed, and the applicant has good reason to fear injury to his or her person or property, or for any other proper purpose, including the carrying of firearms for use in target practice only."

What is the disqualifying criteria for issuance of a License to Carry Firearms?

Under M.G.L., ch. 140, s. 131 an individual is disqualified from carrying a firearm if the person:

has been convicted (or adjudicated delinquent as a youthful offender) of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by more than two years imprisonment, a violent crime, or a weapon or drug offense
has been confined to a hospital or institution for mental illness, unless he has an affidavit from a physician stating he is not disabled by such illness in a manner that prevents him from possessing a firearm
has been under treatment for or confinement for drug addiction or habitual drunkenness, unless deemed cured by a physician
is subject to an outstanding arrest warrant
is subject to a suspension or surrender order or a protection order issued pursuant to MGL. c.209A.
is a minor under the age of (18) eighteen
is an alien
is not found to be a suitable person to be so licensed and does not have good reason to fear injury to his person or property, or any other proper purpose, including the carrying of firearms for use in target practice only, by the licensing authority.
In addition to the above, Federal Law (CH. 44 Title 18 U.S.C. 922 & the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 1997) also adds the following disqualifiers:
you have been discharged from the armed forces under dishonorable conditions
who having been a citizen of the United States, have renounced your citizenship
you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
you are a fugitive from justice

Why not try out an airgun... You only have to be 18 to buy one and thats it. I got mine for $35 at Wal-Mart, and I can do fair damage to anything I aim at. Max range of 490 yards. Lotta fun for $35.

I love walmart. They'll sell you guns, but they won't sell you birth control....

And Yay for your tax rate that keeps increasing so that they can have long legal battles over "shall not be infringed" 2nd ammendment gun rights at your expense.

I have a Class A LTC. My brother has a Class III license and shoots at Harvard Gun Club where there are lots of class III people. If you want a gun, find a local gun club, go visit, and you'll find out how easy or difficult it will be for you to get a LTC in your particular town. Some police chiefs don't have a problem with giving out an LTC and others think nobody should have an LTC. I'm lucky to live in a town where the chief thinks that people with no criminal record can own a gun. Oh yeah, if you don't know what gun club is closest to you, find the closest gun store and visit them. Someone there will be able to steer you in the right direction.
