For the first time since I bought this house (18 months ago), my sump pump is getting some use.
At least I know it works!!

Just thought I'd share.

Mine was working this AM - I sure hope it still is!!!

I tell ya, there's something about a stone foundation that's just so...uh...porous. ::)

I can relate. Last spring, after buying the house in February, our cellar flooded and I rushed out and bought the last pump in town. Of course I never dug a proper hole and installed the pump with plumbing to the outside even though I had a year to do it. I checked it last night and there was a little water there but not much. I ran a hose into the laundry sink and forced the pump to suck it out anyway. It may get deeper than I want it to but it won't overflow the crappy old hole. The dog and I heard a familiar gurgling all around the neighborhood on our nightly garbage-sniffing rounds.

I don't have a sump pump so I don't have anything to pump my sump. Now my house is a dump with all my sump in a lump.

No sump for me. I spent the night alternating between vacuuming the garage and basement floors. 30 mins of sleep and no work today. Great spring so far ::) ::)

Isn't that what the basement sink is for ? ;) Hopefully Joe Curatone doesn't read this board.

There's nary a house in Somerville with a cellar that doesn't flood. Too many paved yards ! The gurgling sound is familiar one - I've even been squirted with water walking by the random PVC pipe sticking out onto the sidewalk.

I guess I am lucky living pretty high above the water table. My barn dehumidifier does the job, but it runs 24 hours/day. As soon as the heat goes off, the one in my house basement gets switched on, too.

You ought to see my electric bills...

ack! 1 to 3 more inches of rain saturday! I wonder when my neighbor down the hill will notice my sump hose drains almost into his back yard.....??

Probably soon Trailbait.

Tom.... So you DO reckognize the avatar eh? I heard stories of cities sending some kind of smoke bomb through the sewers to catch homeowners sumping into it. It's a myth, even if they could get it through the water, it would just come up ALL the drains, but it's a great visual picturing your house spewing purple smoke out all its orifices.

Ben,
Or should I say Dr. Seuss... Nicely done about the sump, Nicely done without a pump.

I don't think we got that much in GB. Hard to tell because I was asleep.

I only know because the rain and wind woke me up, and my bird bath is now filled to the rim but it was dry yesterday.
