Bradbury Trail Work Days - 2005

Three trail work days have been planned at Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal; the park has recently acquired 40 acres on the east side of Route 9 (west of the existing IMBA trail, with plans on building 2 loops through the area for singletrack, including one technical loop. Park staff plan on laying out the new trail as soon as conditions allow (snow melts). Additionally, park staff is ready to start mapping the Tryon parcel for future trails in that area.

The park has received significant matching grant money for trail building and maintenance. It can match these grants with volunteer labor so we are looking for as many volunteers as possible at these three events. Maine NEMBA is assisting with the coordination of these events, but we welcome all volunteers (mountain bikers or not) to join us for these trail days.

The work parties at these events will focus on trail maintenance/cleanup as well as trail building. For each of these work days bring work gloves, trail building/maintenance tools (if you got 'em), a bag lunch and your bike gear for a post-work ride.

To commemorate of Earth Day, Friday April 22, 2005, ME NEMBA will team up with a crew from the Timberland store in Freeport for a day-long trail building event from 9-4. Timberland has been supporting the park for 10 years with volunteer work days and grants. We expect a large turnout from Timberland and the local community- it would be great to have mountain bikers represented too. For planning purposes, event organizers would like to estimate the number of volunteers for the day. For more information contact sissy-girl@adelphia.net or Mick Rogers, Park Manager: Mick.Rogers@maine.gov

On Saturday May 21, 2005 ME NEMBA will partner with the park staff and members of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine from 8-4. The May event precedes by two weeks the annual EFTA race at Bradbury (June 5) this would be a great way to learn the trails and get a sneak peak at the course conditions. For more information, contact Rick at chiddong@hotmail.com.

On Saturday Sept. 17, 2005 ME NEMBA will again partner with the park staff and members of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine from 8-4. Mark your calendars, well provide more information as the date draws near.

Note: NEMBA members who participate in these events will be qualified for a chance to win a Merlin mountain bike through the Merlin/NEMBA Trail Care series. Please spread the word to generate a great turnout for these events.
