I just got 2 sets of Maxxis Tubeless tires CHEAP!!! $10 for a set of 2
http://www.maxxis.com/shop_maxxis/product_detail.asp?id=103
the set came with 2 tires 2 rims srips nd a patch kit ( with tire levers )
26a3 on the box says for mavic 221 and 223 rims , but I just put on on a araya 810 and it is holding air fine.
( and the 26 A says it is for Sun Rhino lite rim )
Any way to my question .
is anyone running Maxxis Tubeles system ? and The system doesn't have any sealant would this be a good thing to add to it ? ( some good old tire slime )

never used em but I just ordered some after reading your post. too cheap to pass up. I imagine that putting some stans sealant in with them would help with small punctures.

That is a great deal. I already run maxxis tubless with Stans and think there great. I looked at this deal and scooped a set up also...$10.00
Had to! Thanks Splat.
Yeah I would reccomend Stans myself but slime might be cool.

What's the difference between the 26A and the 26A3 models? Would either of these work on Mavic 717 rims?

Those rim strips fit Cane Creek (Velocity) Areoheats nicely also. Personal experiance.
I could'nt see spending $10 on an item and then $5 for s&h, so i bought 2 sets.
Has anyone tried the rimstrip with a different tire. Those Maxxis Hard Drives got about the worst review on MTBR of all tires. Plus they have no tread and are too thin.

Bill I was the same way ,I bought 2 sets as well. I put one set on my hard tail at work. I also got some Stans sealant and put some in , I am using those tires But I bet they won't last long , but if you think I'm not going to use brand new tires ,I say wear them out first :)
anyway , now playing with an Arrya 810 ( the 26a3 fits that rim very nicely ) I put a brand new IRC Mudmax DH tire on it with no sealant , and it is holding air!!! will have to see for how long

I rode those tires at Wompatuck sunday and had no issues with them except in the deep snow they knifed down pretty bad but everywhere else they were good. Didnt slip on climbs and nothing weird when zipping through the singletrack. yeah they are skinny but they seem to do ok and they roll pretty fast. When they wear out I am going to try and use some Hutchinson UST Pythons on the strips.

I think It's a Maxxis conspiricy. I can see it all in my minds eye. Sitting around the board room ...........
"Hey, how much will it cost to figure out all the different wheel and tire combinations combatible with this wheel strip?
Hmm, if we sell the entire set-up at cost or less, and only specify what we really know they are designed to fit, do ya think the bikers will experiment on their own and share the information with enough people to make the investment worthwhile? Who has a username over at mtbr to get the ball rolling?"

Held air for a few Hours , So I bet with some Stans sealant it should be ready to rock and roll.

Too heavy!
Tubeless is useless technology for a MTB.
I went back to a nice lightweight set of kevlar beaded tires & tubes & hardly ever have to pump them up.
If you look at the combined weight of the tubless tire & the sealant compared to a kevlar/bead & tube setup then it's a no brainer.
Seems kinds self defeating in a sense, a tubless tire with sealant?
What's the point?

fo DH purposes tubeless in considerably lighter than a tubed set-up...I tried tubeless because I wanted the extra pinchflat protection I couldnt get from a lightweight tubed setup. Plus I can run my tires with alot less pressure so I get better traction.
Its not all about weight.
