My current shoe setup is Sidi Mega Dominator’s which run on Shimano
SPD 636’s pedals. I also use these shoes on my road bike which came with a shimano spd pedal, and I use them in spinning class.

I want some road shoes and pedals that will be used on my road and ( the shoes) in spinning class.

My question is…Are all SPD pedals compatible? Do these two pedals use the same cleat:

There's a few types of SPD. Standard SPD is like what is on the top pedal of your two links. Then I think the others are SPD-R which I believe is what the bottom pedal is, and SPD-SL or something, another road system. All the mountain pedals are the standard SPD. They use different cleats.

That R-540 is the 105 pedal I believe. SPD-SL road pedal. The Ultegra and Dura-Ace Pedals are also SPD-SL. Great on the road, it'd be really annoying on a mountain bike.

It is pretty much just SPD and SPD-SL now.

They used to have a different road pedal, SPD-R. But Lance Armstrong refused to use them so they made SPD-SL.

There are tons of SPD compatible pedals out there you can use, it has apparently been licensed. No one is making SPD-SL pedals/cleats except Shimano, they were new for 2004.
