I remember reading a while back that this site caused an uproar by various animal cruelty organizations.
According to the following, the paypals donation button no longer works

Webmaster ransoms own pet for $50,000
Phoenix East Valley Tribune
"Animal rights advocates want a Scottsdale-based company to shut down a Web site that threatens to kill a bunny if it doesn’t receive $50,000 from the public. The anonymous Web site owner promises to sear, sauté, and simmer the rabbit he named Toby and calls a friend if his monetary demands are not met. 'I am going to take Toby to a butcher and have him slaughter this cute bunny,' the owner said on the Web site, 'and I will then prepare Toby for a midsummer feast.' The site includes recipes with graphic instructions and photos of Toby in a pan."

I want to help.
RED-WINE BRAISED TOBY WITH SAGE POLENTA
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
a 2 1/2- to 3-pound cute bunny, thawed if frozen, cut into 7 or 8 serving pieces
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoons minced fresh rosemary leaves
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup dry red wine
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh parsley leaves
2 tablespoons minced fresh sage leaves or 1 teaspoon dried, crumbled
1 recipe basic polenta, kept warm
For basic polenta:
4 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup cornmeal or instant polenta
In a large bowl stir together flour and salt. Add cute bunny pieces and toss to coat. In a heavy kettle heat 2 tablespoons oil over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking and brown cute bunny in batches, transferring pieces to a bowl.
Add onion and remaining tablespoon oil to kettle and sauté, stirring occasionally, until softened but not browned. Stir in garlic and rosemary and sauté, stirring, 1 minute. Add broth, wine, and rabbit with any juices accumulated in bowl and simmer, covered, 1 hour, or until cute bunny is tender. Remove lid and simmer until sauce is thickened slightly. Stir in parsley.
Stir sage into warm polenta. Serve polenta topped with cute bunny and sauce.
This also goes great with PETA chips! hey!

Yum! That sounds really good.
I don't have a cute bunny. Do you think a cute cat would work instead?

I'm down with the eating part. It is the killing part that I prefer to leave to someone else. Not to imply that those PETA fanatics have a clue, though. I bet most of them wouldn't help a drowning man, but they'd pull his dog into a boat.

that's great! ;D
isn't PETA the one that runs ads with nude models with cute fuzzy animals? i bet if the toby was missing an eye, going bald, was fat, and had a horrible scar, they wouldn't care much.

That sounds like Peta. I suspect the whole Toby thing was an attempt to pull their chain. I like it!
