I was curious to see if there were any good rides in this area. I plan on spending my vacation there this summer and i know there are plenty of hikes, but you never know how many of the trails are rider friendly. If anyone has any insite i'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

Greenville and Jackman are supposed to have trail systems, but I have not been to either. Have you tried calling the local bike shops (If there are any) or the Chambers of Commerce? Maine is loaded with old abandoned roads / skidder trails / doubletrack, most of it in some remote areas. Outstanding scenery and lots of climbing.

Some of the snowmobile trails are open year-round, some are not. http://www.moosehead.net/winter/trailmap.html

Funny that you posted those links, since posting i've been to all of them. I've made contact with the COC and have a few panflets(sp) heading my way. The only real "bike path" etc listed online are a couple of old rail road beds and i have no desire to ride on those. I have 113 more days to figure it out so i'm not worried yet ;D
Thanks for responding either way 8)

You know what? They have a MTB race up at Squaw Mountain during a festival every year. Moose Mania I think. It's supposed to be a 13.5 mile loop. I'll bet there's more stuff in the area. And trust me on this. They may not be singletrack trails, but there will be tons of rocky old roads, snowmobile trails, and jeep trails up there you can ride.

I found this in my Mountain Bike Maine book, maybe you can hook up for some group rides. They have a shuttle service. ;D

Not sure about the trail system in the moose head area, but I do know that alot of the logging roads,in the area up there a closed to any traffic except for vehicular traffic., and the roads are owned by the paper companies, so there trucks have the right away.As far as the snowmobile trails go they are super high ways which usally are big enough to run small trucks or snocats down for wintertime grooming. You might try these guys www.penobscotadventures.com
they are a rafting company but the last time we wnet rafting with them they told us to bring mtnbikes with us and they would take us around to some of the trails.they are from the area so it is a possible starting point. good luck calvin weeks

Thanks for the info but since the last post our 4-some has decided that we are NOT going to bring our bikes to Maine. With the time we have we'll be hiking and canoeing and not really have enough time to bike.
