"On February 20, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson took his life with a gunshot to the head at his fortified compound in Woody Creek, Colorado," said a statement issued by Thompson's son, Juan Thompson, to the Aspen Daily News as reported by the Denver Post.

The passing of a legend. His stuff always made me laugh and think. There's definitely a place in the world for anyone like Dr. Thompson who looks at the world from a different angle and can articulate the view from there, even if that view is sometimes "adjusted" a bit by chemicals.
My band is playing on Friday night, dedicated to Hunter...

I'm thinking he saw dementia coming up like a freight train. Or at least, was depressed as a result of past indulgence.
