I've been listening to Muse's latest cd non-stop for the past few weeks. I would highly recommend picking it up.

I'm not going to state the obvious.

I've been listening to Los Lonely Boys, Creed, The Smithereens, along with the obvious.

12 cent is a local band thats been around for a little while. they sort of gear towards punk rock. well i think its punk because the term punk rock has been ruined by the likes of blink 182 and good charlotte.

Clutch's newest CD 'Blast Tyrant' has been living in my player for weeks on end now. Good angst-free rock, not super-heavy but just heavy enough, w/ a little southern flavor.

DP, tap into that southern flavor w/ some Drive By Truckers. they are this generation's skynyrd. excellent lyrics, too.

Will do, thanks Tim.

Speaking of Skynyrd I wonder how many bands I annoyed in Lowell yelling "PLAY FREEBIRD MAAANNN!!!..hic..."

Just picked up a CD by your buds in Quintaine Americana the other day. Had to have a copy of their cover of Rebel Yell...always a great way to end a show.

Also, dunno if anybody else here likes 'hardcore', but there's a Sam Black Church retrospective sorta thing called 'For We Are Many'. 2 CD's worth of tunes and a couple videos too. They were probably my favorite live band ever; the singer Jet really know how to work a crowd.

One of the other instructors gave me a CD of a band that she is managing called Counter Effect. I gave it a listen last night, and it isn't bad. She called the style "melodic rock". Think metal, without the screaming. The singer can actually sing.

damn, that's one hell of a stage (PA) dive.

you ever listen to slapshot? I got to know the drummer (mark mckay) via my frequent shopping trips to newbury comics. super nice guy.

I saw Slapshot at the Rat once. One of the most violent shows I've ever been to.Saw SBC years ago and was none too impressed.Boston produced alot of underground bands that mattered, but SBC was'nt one of them.

Dunno how much they 'mattered', just always had a real good time when I saw them. Tree too. Open to suggestions though - I'm due for some new stuff. Watcha got?

Flaming Lips--Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots was one of the best yet---does anyone know what they're up to now?
I still rate FL's Telepathic Surgery up there with my best albums of all time, next to Miles Davis Bitches Brew, Neil Young Tonights the Night, and Iggy and the Stooges.....the Who Quadrophenia of course and anything by HSR--does anyone remember them?
So my musical tastes are alittle eclectic, so's my riding style......

Does this have a lot of acoustic Bowie in Portugese by the guy in the movie? That was pretty cool.

Ahh. Human Sexual Response. I remember the name from back in my college days, when I was hanging out at the Rat and Cantones listening to DMZ, Real Kidz, Willie Loco, etc. Lately I've been listening to old Bowie with my 15 year old son who has discovered his music. I saw him at the Fleet Center last March and he's still unbelievable.

Yes, the Rat was fun......we made it out alive....and amazing yes that kids these days still appreciate the music that(someof us) grew up with. My 6 yo son loves Jimi, George Harrison, both my kids big Beatles fans,......Sad to say though I'm real out of touch with the current kids music......

Human Sexual Response were really good, but the Zulus were unbelieveable. Richie Gilbert was the guitarist for HSR, he and the singer (can't recall his name) formed the Zulus. The guitar work, especially live was amazing. Richie now plays guitar with Frank Black and the Catholics, Before the Pixies reunion.

I got an I-pod for Christmas and I have been endlessly loading songs on to my PC and I-pod. It is such a fun toy!

As for music the top stuff on my playlist recently is - Hip Hop - The Roots, All Natural, Jurrasic Five

Reggae - The most recent Alpha Blondy and Burning Sprear are great CD's.

Metal - One Minute Silence, Halford

Punk/Ska - Rancid, Transplant, Bad Religion

Back in the day, when I was still playing in bands, I played the Rat on a new music night. I was also fortunate enough to play the Channel. Great place to play, but I hated the monitor setup. We were there with a group called "No Idea". Greatest name for a band I ever heard.

Oh yeah, the Channel. We used to go there, too. I remember walking all the way over there from Back Bay in my red snakeskin spike-heeled shoes.

Sorry, bad boy. I wore them out doing the Pogo. The guitar player in Real Kids really liked them. I've got some other good ones, though, but they suck for biking.

speaking of "good music",
i saw a new video by Kelly Clarkson this morning. Nice to see she has finally realized she needs to lose weight and show some T&A to sell records.
You go girl!

check out _Trials and Errors_ from Magnolia Electric Co (formerly Songs: Ohia, basically it's still Jason Molina and whoever he ropes in). if you like Neil Young stuff like _Zuma_, _Time Fades Away_ or _Tonight's The Night_, you shouldn't be disappointed.
