My current favorites (I'm way behind the times):
Coffee & Cigarettes(not really a Movie....)
Royal Tenenbaums, Bottle Rocket, any movie by Wes Anderson( havent seen the new one)
1941(1942?)w/John Belushi and dan Ackroyd, especially when the ferris wheel cut loose down the pier , and all its lights were still on.....
What's yours?

Netflix rules.
Some recent good finds:
Napoleon Dynamite - kinda strange in a good, low budget way, if you were the kid who didn't exactly fit in in HS, this one's for you
The Man who wasn't there - Billy Bob in a GOOD B&W movie, need I say more?
Mean Girls - kids see it as a comedy, parents of teens see it as a horror movie.
Passion of the Christ - unwatchable. First movie in a long time (maybe since some David Lynch gross out) that I literally couldn't watch. Talk about gratuitous violence.
Kill Bill Vol2 - much better than volume 1, but still not Quentin's best work.

I'm a NetFlix customer, so all my favorites are a few months past release, at best.
Punch-Drunk Love - never was much of an Adam Sandler fan. but I liked this movie. Very quirky, but not TOO far over the top, for Sandler, anyway.
Fahrenheit 9/11 - got bored, didn't finish it. All rehash, especially at this point in time.
Casablanca - on TBS, still one of the best movies of all time.
New World Disorder, 2000 - NetFlix has a few bike movies now. The first part, with the Red Bull Rampage style cliff stuff, was the best.
Memento - awesome movie. Follow closely so you don't miss the plot.

I was bored and annoyed by Coffee and Cigarettes. Looking forwardto Napoleon Dynamite. Just watched About a Boy, with the GF and liked it. Hi Fidelity, by the same author also a good movie (and book). The Incredibles was a fun animation.
Somebody here (cheeze?) posted that "what the bleep do we know?" was great, so I read up on it & checked it out. Thought it was a good, new-agey pep-talk but I kept getting the feeling I was watching it in some philosophy or psychology classroom. When the end credits said something like "Ramasama Bamalama as chanelled by..." I was a little, ummm... weirded out.

here are good netflix (how can blockbuster be around in a year or two?) flicks i've gotten in the past few months.
the ring (so shoot me, i'm slow). very good, creepy flick. i wanna see the original japanese one too.
adaptation. charlie kaufman's got some strange ideas, and i like 'em.
primal fear. another one i missed the 1st (and 2nd and 3rd) time around, but well worth viewing. ed norton's first movie? unreal.
if you liked _memento_ see _donnie darko_. not exactly the same sort of movie, but a good head trip nonetheless.

also netflix:
Dirty Pretty Things.
The Ring is tonight's movie....so you're not the only slow one, Narlus.
I'd like to see Hotel Rwanda, but i'm going to wait until it comes out on dvd. I don't go to theaters to be depressed. I stay home for that.
Probably catch "Closer" with my wife this weekend. Natalie Portman plays a stripper. Wahoo! She had a nude scene in it, then asked that they take it out. What a tease!

Other Netflix "musts", these will show how sick you really are:
League of Gentlemen - (not the movie) Its an English "comedy" with three guys playing a multitude of characters - watch it then ask yourself "are you local?"
The Office - another English sit com. A lot of squirmy moments in this, but if you can get past the squirms, its freaking hilarious! I understand its on BBC America, but I do not have cable.

Gotta support the Ring as a good horror choice. Gave me the creeps, and some of the images still stick in my mind.

I saw Napolean Dynamite and hated it. I thought it looked like a film school project that got a failing grade.
Any film by Stanley Kubrick, or Sam Peckinpah. I recently watched Clockwork Orange. Brilliant film.

I've got that sitting on the coffee table - the guy at the video store last nite recommended. Tried to get Npaoleon Dyanmite, but all out. Ended up watching Shaun of the Dead last night, had a few good chuckles and make a decent effort at originality. Nothing great, but watchable anyway.
All time favorites?
Kubrick, specially Clockwork Orange and Cuckoos Nest but they're all great.
Mel Brooks, specially History of the World, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein
Dog Day Afternoon,
Cool Hand Luke,
The Exorcist,
Animal House,
PF The Wall,
I like a lot of movies w/ Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino or Steve Martin in them too.

Another vote for Napolean Dynomite. Still laughing at stuff a week after I saw it.
I watched Easy Rider last night. I had never seen it straight through before. I would like to take a vacation inside Dennis Hoppers head.
Big Fish - Tim Burton flick was good
Faith Rewarded - Sox movie by NESN is great. I would like to watch game 7 against the Yankees all over again.

The family and I have watched in 3 or 4 times now. We are quoting lines to each other, and still laughing.
Kid on bus "What are you going to do today Napoleon?"
Napolean (annoyed) "Whatever I want, GAWD!"
Some very funny stuff, however, it is low budget and you have to be into that sort of thing to watch it.

You got like three feet of air... Mind if I try it real quick?
That was a great scene. ;D ;D ;D ;D
How about:
"Don't be all jealous of me because I've been chatting with chicks on line all day...."
Rex Quon Do
I'm training to be a cage fighter...
How about the farmer shooting the cow? Classic.

If you like stuff from England you have to watch Coupling...Start from the first season. Much funnier than any American sitcoms.

Enjoyed "Napoleon Dynamite" but it wasn't worth the $16 late charge my daughter incurred by neglecting to return it. "Meet the Fockers" was a fun Christmas vacation outing with the kids. I have to agree with Slider on Casablanca, although if I were Ilsa, Victor Laszlo would have gotten on the plane by himself. I was fortunate enough to find my favorite western, "Tombstone", for very cheap at Wal-Mart just before Christmas.

I agee Slider, Memento is one of my favorites. If you haven't seen it check out "The Usual Suspects" its right up there with Memento, maybe better. Kevin Spacey is awesome in this movie.

Maybe we need a new thread, but a top five or ten of all time list would be interesting. My top five:
Star Wars - the first of them all was cutting edge and changed Sci Fi. You could take it on face value, or apply pshyhological or mythological analysis, and it stood up. Not many movies, especially action/adventure, work on so many levels.
Forbidden Planet - I clearly have a Sci-fi bias, since I like movies that take me places I could not go in real life. This movie, loosely based on Shakespeare's "The Tempest", had amazing effects for its time, and a plot that grabs you.
Citizen Kane - yeah, everyone picks this one, for lots of good reasons. Not everyone knows that "rosebud" was William Randolph Hearst's nickname for his mistress', um, g-spot, which is why he got so pissed that Orson Welles almost had to leave the movie industry.
Casablanca - no explanation needed here. Other great Bogey movies include the Maltese Falcon, of course, but I like Treasure of Sierra Madre even more. Bogart does a great psycho impersonation, long before Jack Nicholson came around.
This is the hardest pick for such a short list. Candidates include some of the Spaghetti Westerns with Clint, and Hang 'em High would be a good choice. But it's not quite top five material. Here's one I really like, since it achieves that "take me away" sense that I look for in a movie: The Man Who Would be King. It's got Sean Connery, Michael Caine, and that sense of "we can do anything" that only a British imperialist could fully subscribe to. The world will never be so free again.

Top 5 movie list, ay?
Pulp Fiction
Fight Club
Jacob's Ladder
Das Boot
eh.....dunno
btw. Saw "Closer" this weekend. If any ya'll are a fan of Natialie Portman's physical assets, I highly recommend checking it out. It's a raunchy chick flick, but Nat spends a good 20 minutes with her arse in the camera.

Since this has changed to a Top 5 thread, here are mine, in no particular order:
The Wild Bunch directed by Sam Peckinpah
Blazing Saddles directed by Mel Brooks
Casablanca directed by Michael Curtiz
The Godfather directed by Francis Ford Coppola
Full Metal Jacket directed by Stanley Kubrick

Top five? that's tough. I love movies, its really hard to pick five. I guess what I look for in a movie is one that changed me or made me think even if it was only for a week or two.
In no particular order:
Apocolypse Now - My wife hates it, probably the first movie I really enjoyed.
Pulp Fiction - Amazing.
Jacob's Ladder - wouldn't have picked that one, but saw it on TB's list and that movie messed with my head for weeks
Sleeper or some other early Woody Allen
Life of Brian - hilarious and sarcastic - my kind of movie.
Honorable mentions:
Early Spike Lee - highly creative and interesting
Memento - supposedly there is a version of that movie with everything "in order" which would probably ruin it
Waking Life - Amazing movie, many will not like it, but grab a beer sit down and enjoy
Last one: gotta mentionPink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz combo.

Napoleon Dynamite is absolutely hilarious, however Life Aquatic puts NP to shame with it's completely random humor/witty dialogue.
Highly recommend it.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force v3 is another good watch.
