that crash might have started the breakage because i came down hard on the front before i crashed.

o yeah, it hurt. it was just a little drop that was about 3 feet high. i went for it and because i nose dived earlier in the day i lifted up way to hard and when i landed i came down really hard on the front and i guess the crown snapped when the front hit. when the crown snapped it caused me to go down and all i really remember is sticking my hands out and headbutting a small stump. some bruises, scrapes, and a scratch above my eye were what that crash left me with. a full face helmet is my next priority. headbutting stumps isnt fun.

.....i really remember is sticking my hands out....

Dude that brings back bad memories, you are lucky you didn't break anything on you!

well i was pretty much already on the ground. my bike went out one way and slid sideways and i went the other way. my hands just went out in front of me and grabbed the stump. if i didnt stick my hands out i probably would have knocked myself out on it or i could have really hurt my eye or even lost it.

is that the exr? one of the guys at my shop did the same thing to the crown. i think it was the exr model, whatever the one that comes on the 02 or 03 p2. not sure on warranty/crash replacement deal on his, haven't been to the shop in a bit. another guy that works at the shop broke broke an old marz. too, but he snapped on of the dropouts off his while landing a small drop and that got warrantied, and he upgraded to one of the single crown drop-off models for a small fee.

crashes where you don't remember anything are kinda a good sign, as long as you don't get hurt. they're pretty interesting too. i take it as a sign that i'm good biker when i know how to fall well. i've had a few amazing crashes at speed on steep slopes. i was riding down some really steep, leaf covered semi-trail (it was new and not used much) on a rented bike at gore mt. the bike had xc tires on it which didn't help. i was following these new guys down this trail, we stop at the top of the slope and they say to just follow them. i start going down the trail, riding the rear brake, then skidding down the slope, still gaining more speed. the guy in front of me stops at a turn to travers the slope, i try to turn, going to fast, so i skid past him, see this big rock, reallize i'm gonna hit it, and let the brakes go to ride over it. the next thing i remember is lying about fifteen feet down past that rock, at the base of about a 5 foot body skid, next to a large pile of rocks, that if i landed on, i probably would've have been at least carried out of there on a stretcher. amzingly, all i sufferd was a scraped arm. i got up, assessed the dammaged, glasses flew off, broke my watch off, and the bike was about another 15 feet down the trail. the guys i was riding with said i hit the rock and did a full front flip and cashed in on some sky-miles. i found my lost gear, collected the bike (which only suffered a dented pedal cage and slgiht warp on the rear wheel) and continued the ride to the base of the mountain. good stuff. i so wish i had that on film though, it was a true kodak moment.

goodluck with the fork. make sure you call marzocchi soon, and don't give some JRA BS excuse, then they shaft you with a crummy deal. it shouldn't have broken on a 3 foot drop, but then again, you did say you endoed it. just don't show them splat's pic of your crash ;D

Of all the crazy broke bikes that I've seen come into the bike shop, this would have probably taken the cake.

the guys at the bike shop said that this is the first time theyve ever seen a marzocchi fork break like this. must be my aggressive riding style. ::)

I'm glad you didn't get hurt. Keep us posted on the Warranty results. Hopefully the LBS doesn't mention 3 ft. drops on a fork intended strictly for XC use. For safety sake, you should consider an upgrade to a fork designed for the type of riding you're doing.

Paging Mr Gnu, Paging Mr Gnu,

This is your wake up call.

KNowledge earned is better then knowledge learned, provided the cost is not to dear.

Happy to hear you were not seriously hurt, be sure to keep it that way.

Gnu,

I would reccomend an upgrade, an MZ race is a XC fork (check out the marzocci web site) and isnt intended for repeated drops, missed jumps, endos etc. If they warranty the fork sell it and use the $$ for something beefier.... oh yea the FF helmet is a good idea too

They'll probably give you a crash replacement deal where you pick the fork you want and they give you a pretty good discount (Z1 FR for $389 or Super T for $515 when I dealt w/ them last year after destroying a Jr T). Have the shop give you the RMA # and deal directly w/ Marzocchi is the best way I've found.
A Giro switchblade helmet is a lot more practical and comfortable for trail riding than a DH or motox model if you can find one. Unless of course you land on your face and/or head regularly.

well im planning on racing dh next year and a switchblade isnt really good for that. next time i go to the bike shop im pretty sure ill get a full face. yes, i know the fork wasnt designed for my style of riding but its what came with the bike and im not rolling in dough at my house so i just dealt with it.

You're right, definitely get something beefier for DH. Even a cheap Bell Rhythm will take a good beating. For trail riding though, real full-faces are overkill, specially in the summer. The switchblade is a good compromise for when you're not riding lifts. You can probably pick up one of each for the price of one of the fancier full-face models.
My $.02 anway.

actually my parents are thinking about getting me a 661 full bravo 2 for christmas so im covered in the helmet department. as for my fork, its being shipped off to marzocchi in california where they will determine if theyll warranty it. so i wont have a bike for the next week or two i guess.
