I've spent some time on a fs bike-and now I want to get a custom steel bike...but the region's best small steel frame builder has vanished!!! Does anyone know what happened to Ted Wojcik??? Is he still making bikes (for people who ask really nicely? Where did he go?
And if I can't find him..anyone got any experience with Soulcraft, Steelman, Sycip or Stong???

Last I heard Ted was still doing some bikes just not full time. If you really want a custom sized steel frame why not a Seven or IF? There is a better chance of having them be around in a few years if you ever have a warranty/repair issue. I have had a custom sized IF since 99. it's a great bike.

He has been pretty elusive for a few years, but seems to be making a comeback.
AJ, the owner of Nault's cycles in Nashua NH now is part owner with Ted. He says he has bikes and frames on display there. Ted's still making bikes, and apparently has some new designs, both road and mountain.

Yes, I ride a TW hardtail. You can see it in action on my avatar.
Steel is real!

My Ted FS was my only ride for SIX YEARS, until this summer!
And, yes... this was by choice. (Despite much heckling and ball-busting from friends!) I've absolutely loved the way it rides.
I still have it. I'll be a fine backup bike if I can stand the creaking.

Creaking has to be fixable! BB tightness, maybe?
I suppose, after six years, things might be getting out of round. I would be surprised if Ted couldn't replace it for you if that is the case.

Custom Steel frame - east coast builder - you have to at least get in contact with a guy in Virginia by the name of Steve Stickel - the guy knows his stuff, builds amazing frames and is real tuned in to what type of geometry works best on the east coast.
http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=60610 - his contact information can be found in this thread.

I was just at Ted's shop-he's still making bikes, and John at Underground Cycle is still painting them( he'll re-paint any bike, too).....AJ has a nice shop with most of Ted's designs fully built and out on display---Road w/ carbon rear triangle, cross, hardtail. He has a new much-improved fully coming out soon. His website's still down but AJ at the shop in Nashua can get you set up.
