Once we started Douglas and I were keeping a pretty quick Pace , so I did not have time for too many Pics for the first few ( 8 or so ) miles .

It had rained Pretty had on thanksgiving , and then got cold , the combo of frozen water and Leave cover isa Bad combination, at about 5 miles we came across this.
they said he had a Broke wrist ( compound ) , and the man was in some serious Pain .
always a sad sight to see.

Douglas trying to get some feeling back into his toes using the Hot coa coa.

We decided here we were going to do the Hero loop ( 25 mile ride instead of a 12 ) , but douglas need to warm his toes so we stopped right after this at a local store where he went and warmed his toes.

We hit the awesome single track , really started enjoying it ! , decided to slow our pace down , because we were pushing so hard it is what was making us cold. Toes and Fingers that is.

I don't know who this is , but I liked the Pic.

Sorry I missed you folks. I was keeping an eye out for everyone I 've ridden with since moving to Mass. I got to the park at 8 AM and registered, then did a warm up ride up to the Ledges and back. By the time I got back, Jack was giving his speech, and some folks were leaving for the ride early, so I did as well. Having lived 2 minutes from the start of the ride, and generally having those trails more or less to myself, the crowd size was a bit disconcerting. I ended up blowing through the lake ride, and then did a couple of the single track sections and called it a day. I was either coming up on people slower than me, or pulling over to let faster folks pass. Still, it was fun and as always good to ride my old haunts.

Wow.. I would never think to take a picture of someone laying on the ground writhing in pain, nor would I go so far to post the picture on the internet.

Am I the only one around here to think that this is in "bad taste"? Seriously I don't want to start a flame war, but if this person was my wife, or one of my friends I'd be livid and would tell the "photographer" to get their own accident.

Noah and I had a great time at the turkey burner. Let me take this opportunity to thank all the riders who shouted out attaboys to Noah and treated him like he was famous. He really enjoyed showing off his ride and his riding. He rode to the cocoa station in the middle ring and decided to do the hero section too. We made it through the fire line but after the long trail we short cutted along the rail bed back to the lot. 3.75 hours, close to 20miles pretty good for a 10 year old.

"Wow.. I would never think to take a picture of someone laying on the ground writhing in pain, nor would I go so far to post the picture on the internet. "

That might be a little harsh. The picture doesn't even show if it was a male or a female on the ground. Now if he had got right up close that might be a different story.

I understand the person who had the accident was Scott Nixon, president of South Central NH NEMBA. Hope he's doing OK.

Jerseygirl and I were riding near one of tha marshals and we heard about the accident over the radio. When we came upon the accident, he was sitting on the ground and I thought that he had hit his head or something. He wasn't holding his wrist or anything like that.

Hope that he is ok and is back riding soon.

Scott is doing well. He broke his elbow. There are now 6 screws in there holding things together. (maybe he'll post the x-ray) A full recovery is expected.

I am in agreement with Norm here......Its not like he got a shot of his face. I also know Scott he is a great guy and likley would laugh at this Pic. I respect were you are coming from mtbtom, but be careful not to superimpose your feelings on this situation.

Besides I know his friends were there supporting him and looking after him and also Videoing his every grimace for posterity ;D

Looks like it was good time, too bad I missed it. Unfortunately I also saw a broken bone (wrist) accident this weekend at Foxboro. Offered to ride ahead and drive back to where they were but she was determined to walk out.

As far as the pic being in bad taste - well, I guess you know it when you see it as they say. IMHO it's not in "bad taste" ( it's definitely a part of the sport - albeit unfortunate) but that's just me. Asking permission is always a good idea though.

I think you're over reacting. If it was me, I'd have held up my injury for the camera. Most riders I know wouldn't care or would be proud in a weird, sophomoric way. I've been viewing a lot of Splat's pics lately and it seems he just takes pictures when he stops and posts them all. I'm sure he means no harm.

Hey I wasn't riding with the Guy in the zebra set up. he just happend to be in the picture ! Blame Douglas ! and I myself have never been known as a fasion plate.

Now on to other things , I emailed Scott about me posting the picture of him. here is what he had to say.

i dont mind the pic that is up there, i thought it was a thoughtful shot not showing the close up.

Had he not liked it I would have taken it down.

No, I think the fact that he had to ask the injured person if it were OK after the picture was taken and posted proves that this is a slippery slope.

Still don't understand why anyone would think to whip out the camera in this situation - this is not a funny "ha-ha" moment. When I passed by he was strapped down in a stretcher on the back of the ATV. I Immediately I thought the worst (think Christopher Reeves) and didn't know the extent of the injury until I talked to someone at the rest area later on. Maybe he was in better shape 5-10 minutes earlier.

Whatever...We obviously don't agree so that's the last I have to say on the subject.
