The landing off the big one is nasty - I think it's even a little uphill. A buddy of mine trashed his I-drive doing it a few years back. There's a couple smaller drops there as well.
The north campus of Umass Lowell has some fun stuff to play on, lotsa walls, stairs, etc. You can even drop off the dugout at the bb field if no-ones looking ;)

Never had much of a problem, even got a picture one of the campus cops riding around on my old Stab. Got asked to take off once in awhile, but never a big hassle. Just be respectful and try not to f' up the grass, walls, etc and lay low when there's a lot of people around. There's an elementary school up the street (along the river towards downtown) that has a couple drops, some big steps and a small concrete skatepark. It can be a little isolated at night so pay attention to what's going on around you. Got pictures of some gangbanger types on our DH bikes there - even had them doing some 2-3' drops after a little encouragment. Sometimes I almost miss the city...almost.

Sounds like your describing the police station downtown!

They definitely chase you out pretty quick! So does the Tsongas arena. :)

This school is right by the ice cream stand near the boathouse, just a little up the road from N. Campus.

I work rite next to the tsongas boy do they love me there. city hall plaza is also pretty fun but don't plan on spending a lot of time there the man gets ugly pretty quickly they think that anyone riding a bike in the city is a felon.

Next closest city is Lawrence - don't think that would be much of an improvement.
Getting chased out of places is all part of the game, as is avoiding speeding cars and cranking thru questionable neighborhoods late at night at mach speed on the way home.
You must be doing the sub-urban assault... :) Still fun, but you're missing some of the true urban flavor.

Bill - this is what I missed while in NYC over the weekend?

Looks like everyone had a blast!

Great pics!

December 7th, 2004, 09:22 AM
MMcG- It would seem like yesterday by the activity on this thread but the ride pics were posted Nov. 11. I think the DSF crew likes to make the good times last forever. My recolection of their previous ride posts is ride one day and chat about it for 3 weeks.
By that clock it's time for another ride.

Sorry you missed the 2-3 rides inbetween those dates Bill. I unlike some others laughed my ass off when i read your post, but maybe you could clarify to the rest of the readers. In the meantime we will attempt to serve all with ample notice of ride opportunities with MV. "Ride once and chat about it for three weeks", Damn, that's funny.
By the way, the Forest is open to anyone, anytime. Grab a friend or two and ride here or anywhere, no invitation required.

Actually for some reason I don't understand, the activity following that ride on this thread has been about urban riding... on cement. And that's not coming from anybody that was on that ride on the 11th!

I've actually spent more time in the forest the last 3 weekends raking the leaves off the trails, than riding, so that others may get to enjoy the trails well into the early winter. I guess maybe we do things a little different here in the Merrimack Valley.

My fault - I rode Lowell-Dracut a lot in the past and almost always rode there from my house on the other side of the city, working in the 'urban' stuff on the way. The two went hand in hand for me and since LDTSF isn't very big, it's a fun way to supplement a trail ride there. I also wasn't aware that we're supposed to stay very strictly on topic here. Sorry if I somehow messed up your thread.

I think the point MTBME was making is that there's been ongoing activity in the DSF every weekend that involves either a ride or trail work even though they haven't been talking about it. I can see how they might feel a little defensive after the "talk about it for 3 weeks" remark. But if it was only a joke then everybody take a deep breath... No harm done.
