My first bike (1974) was an orange Huffy with bannana seat and training wheels.

I'm no Huffy fan, but this isn't good news. It is hard to make money selling a commodity. Huffy makes inexpensive bikes, but it is these cheaper bikes that open up the world of biking to people. Some of these Huffy riding people will get the passion and trade up to expensive bikes, become trail advocates and buy us micro brews. Free micro brew is a good thing.

I started mountain biking on a Huffy Scout. I used to love blowing past people on expensive bikes when I was on that thing... I broke the frame in two pieces at Lynn Woods. I had it welded back together (with two steel plates attached to the welds) and rode it for another six months. The thing probably weighed 45 lbs.

Huffy definitely had a part in my passion for mountain biking. I hope they can pull out of this.

Sounds like the bike division is going strong. I suspect it'll be around a while, a lot longer than any individual bike they make will be. :)

I can't beleive they have 30% of the market. That's incredible. With that market share someone, probably Pacific, will snatch them up for a bargain.

I remember watching some guy place in the top 5 in a beginner race at Governor's Creek, in Sanford N.C., on a Huffy a few years ago. He worked guys on much more expensive bikes. He wasn't doing it prove a point or anything, it was just what he could afford. Everyone was cheering him on, it was a really good thing to witness. I'm glad there wasn't a "Huffy Toss" at that race though ;).

I began mountain biking on an inexpensive bike, then after I was bitten by the bug, I started collecting expensive bikes. I don't drink, so no free micro brews from me.
