Sounds like a sleazy way to avoid a payment that is due. I'd bet he's already met all contractural terms, and this is an end-around to avoid the outlay.

The end of the article states that the money has been deposited with another firm, JPMorgan, weird, if they have the cash why are they baulking, and causiong all this commotion.

I thought that guy Bill Stapleton was one of Lance's friends, if my memory serves me right, thought he mentioned him in his autobiography about helping him out through and after his cancer fight.
