How has the internet hurt trail access?
An unlimited amount of porn at our finger tips has left less time for trail maintaintence days. :D
Seriously though, what happened to the other thread? Was it deemed a threat to trail access?

I think the thread originator pulled it

Ohhh pleezzze!...Half of you guys wanted me to pull it, so I did...now the other half is yelling at me that I should have kept it up for it was a good discussion and something that needed to be said. You guys drive me nuts.
Ok let's start over.
Hey New England, especially you awesome Bostonians! The secret is out, Mt.B has the best mountainbikeing in the Universe. GO THERE, bring your buddies and then some, plus don't forget your camera so we can record how nice the trails were before our excessive gluttony trashes them! Good news for all you lazy bikers that don't like to explore and get lost..MAPS lots of maps, I'll post those all over the internet too. Don't like long drives?...no worries, just zip up 95 and you'll be there in no time, heck If it weren't for all the stupid Maine plates driving the speed limit and clogging up roads, you'd be able to get there from Boston in like 40 minutes! Who cares about whatever bike related issues this place might have, it's friggen public property...property that used to be Massachusetts! Also buy a bunch of beer to help Maine's starving economy, make sure you leave the empty cans in the parking lot to piss off the locals...they need the money from the returns anyway. Lets be real, most of the trails here in Boston are so hammered, full of broken glass, crowded with renegade freeriders that its about time we venture out a screw up somebody else's trails! Great place to buy a second home too! they've got plenty of open space to hack into!
VIVA la MASS! divide and conquer!
All right, time for me to empty out my pm box for the next round.

Todd
Just my opinion but I think there just might be a bit of an over reaction on your part to the original pictures, the thread to discuss the pictures, and now this particular thread. Come down off the ledge and catch your breath for Christ sake. Is it really necessary to slam all Mass mountain bikers? You sound like you got some real issues going on that have nothing to do with mountain biking.

I am over reacting and defiantly exaggerating. I do not have a “huge ego”, that’s like saying “Lance is on Drugs”. No, its not ego, its called loud bravado...I'll say it again BRAVADO. Toddski is character created for entertainment value, just like Knucklebuster is not really Kevin. I’m exaggerating the evils of Massachusetts. I have lots of friends in Mass that I really like and respect very, very much. I really don’t think the trails suck in Mass and do enjoy riding them…YES, all of this wonderful socialization and recreation would not have been possible if it weren’t for the internet.
So what the heck is this big fuss about??? Am I bulls*it that my local trails are suddenly not a secret anymore?? That’s a pretty dumb notion considering I just spent the past few days typing, ranting, posting, deleting, reporting, pm ing, emailing…even got a fricken phone call from Fatire Freak….! God.. I could have just kept my stumpy little fingers off the keyboard if I didn’t want people to hear about this place! Its already no secret. This is a pm fight spilling over into the public arena; the Romans have tasted blood and demand more. I wanted to say I was sorry to SteveB and let this thing go, poor guy, never saw the train coming..or did he? I can’t forget about this thread from 2002...we were so young and wacky back then, forum newbies- http://www.nemba.org/yabbse/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=512;star t=0 So now, two years later when I see the now infamous “Mt.A (missing) picture post” saying only- SWEET TRAILS, CLOSE TO BOSTON, it seemed vengeful to me…a real slap in the face to Aggie from a guy who should know better, it seemed pointed. Whatever his intentions were, I went berserk over the subject…does this actually surprise you guys?? I simply was trying to imply privately to him that I thought he was an ahole.. it didn’t quite work out that way.

i know i should let this issue die, which i am. but with the mention of MA license plates clogging up I-95 (which is definately true) it reminds me of the family guy with the leafers, or the NY people who invade new england to see the fall foliage. the leafers totally invade quahog and everyone in quahog hates the leafers because they totally congest the place and ruin it. i just couldnt help but notice the comical resemblance.

Y'all could lighten up a bit.
Laugh a little more.
Take all posts lightly and have fun.
Todd is cool by me...and always will be.
I learned a long time ago that his smack is dry humor and never really mean't to offend. Rode with him a couple times...nice guy & strong rider. Fortunately, he is quiet short guy in person. ;)
He would lead a group ride of Mt A in a heartbeat. Don't be fooled by the BRAVADO, or anyone elses.
We're not really A-Holes in person. ;D
Hey, lets get back to keeping this welcoming forum about biking. It used to be mates.
"I feel taller on this soapbox, but I getting down now". :P

ps. It hurts waiting for my shock to come back from Fox. I almost bought another one while waiting this week. Splat beat me up good on the road ride today, phew! Dude thinks he's Lance pulling away from the fat guy behind him. ::)
Internet helps get more people riding bikes = good thing
Places get closed to biking = bad thing.
We're lucky that there's an abundance of places to ride in NE.

Wow, I was such a horrible speller back then. It's fun to reread some of the "good old day" posts :'(

I like Todd's point about people creating a character of themselves while on the internet. Many do this by remaining annonomus, making up a name and persona that they can hide behind. I imagine when the trail banter turns towards the internet posts they get a big kick out of peoples reaction to thier character.
Not everyone gets the concept. Many feel like the person they see posting and then on the trail that they are goiing to be the same. The best comparison i can come up with is, it's like when your friends get drunk and start going off at the mouth and doing stupid stuff they would not do sober.
Just so all you lurkers and posters know. I am justbill, here, on the trail, at home, everywhere.

Well most people can attest to the fact that I am not the person, in person that you see on these forums. Although I do have an aggressive thought process, hate authority figures and WORK, I am a rather kind gentlemen, and an absolute ladies man as well ;D
Rock on Todd. I love when people go on an internet rampage.

Man, I go on vacation for a week and look what happens. I actually missed many of the "offending" posts.
I have two points:
1) Anyone who thinks they can take a GPS route map off the 'net and follow it at a place they are not familiar with hasn't tried it. Perhaps with a GPS unit in hand it would be different. The issue is the map shows you where the GPS unit went, it doesn't show where it didn't. In NE where there are typically trail intersections every 100 yards, I find them almost useless.
2) I have done three or four road trips with my bike. The internet has made these trips worthwhile. For the most part I've used on line info to find places, then I've found someone local to show me around. Its all been good with the possible exception of Phoenix where I was called a "bunner" - a derogatory phrase for someone who comes in from out of town to ride. Having a local guide is key to seeing the "good stuff".
I enjoy posting pictures, mostly to share my experience with others who might enjoy looking at them. I don't ever expect someone to look at my pictures and head on over to where I ride. I'm more than happy to show anyone the trails, but show don't tell is the best strategy as far as I am concerned.
