Was out in the Dracut state forest Saturday to check out the new Americore Trail. Nice trail, tight and twisty.

Norm ,,

Are you going to put out a new trail map ? I was out there today ,but I didn't have time to explore. I rode the new trail you guys did earlier in the year. I didn't see the other 2 trails that nemba nad AMERICORPS did..

"Are you going to put out a new trail map ? I didn't see the other 2 trails that nemba nad AMERICORPS did.. "

EVIL, 95% of the trail were gps last year. A new map is in production and should be available soon. The bad news is that the last 3 or 4 new trails will not be on that map. We will modify a version with the changes and get them posted on our web site. We will find a way to make this information available.

As far as the new trails, the new Americore trail starts about 50 feet behind the kiosk at the main entrance at trotting Park Road. (E6 on the map) The other new trail is on top of the "playground" to the left as you look from the fire road in front. (F6 on the map) Remember we still have plans for another trail or two for this year. I just put a better map on our web site.

(You need to cut and paste the whole link)

As you know the Lowell Dracut Tyngsboro state forest can be hard to find your way around. It could be easy to miss out on some of the best trails. The best idea is to go with someone who knows there way around or join a group ride. I'm also looking to see if we can maybe mark out a NEMBA loop of some kind that would make navigating real easy. The next issue of singletrack will have a schedule of rides in the forest. Or check out Merrimack Valley's link on NEMBA home page for contact information.

"Hey i'm sorry but there is no new map on the website. where is it? "

Just go to the home page. Look at the list below the picture of Bob. You should see a link to the latest map. Remember you might have to refresh your browser to get the latest edition of that page.

really nice pics, thanks for posting them. they've convinced me to go out and explore dracut this weekend (if my wife will let me after my bad crash last weekend . . . i bought a lot of armor this week ;D ).

doesn't look too crazy, a lot of hardpack in the pics. . . any advice for a newbie with 'novice' level skills?

The dracut state forest aslo has very tecnical trail network to. Sense your a newbie u said try not to ride off anything up at the playground you don't feel comfotable around. You can get pretty hurt up there. The fireroads are nice to ride if your new and there are some easy trails off of them. just go out and have fun yet be save.

July 21st, 2004, 05:16 PM
Get a copy of the map off the MV Nemba wesite (listed in above thread by mtbme) and have fun. Ride what you can ride and walk what you need to, if you need to. Tough to get lost in there but you need to have an idea where the trails are to put together a nice ride (hence bring the map). There is a little bit of everything trailwise in there.

thanks for the advice. it's all stuff i 've read over and over again, i just have to make sure i ALWAYS apply it.

when i crashed my legs were really tired after almost two hours of riding (that's a lot for me). i was facing a fast, short hill that is a little rooty and rocky, but just a little. common sense should've told me to take it ez (or walk) since my legs were wobbly, but it sure is more fun to go fast :-\ . real stupid and selfish on my part, but i didn't see it that way at the time. so two bloody and badly bruised forearms, a sore tailbone, a stiff neck, and a cracked helmet later, i think i learned this lesson : ALWAYS RIDE IN CONTROL.

. . . and know your limits, buy knee/shin, elbow/forearm guards, wear them everywhere, and don't forget the advil.

Yikes! Hopefully that won't be the case. Tell you what, if it's not raining Saturday morning, I will be there at 9 o'clock to get a good ride in. Meet at the main entrance at Trotting Park road. I'll bring the bandaids. That's an invitation to jean and harry as well ;)

Unfortunatley I will be Backpacking this weekend Norm...Sorry. But I will get out there with you soon. Are you out there every Saturday at 9 am?

MTBME
July 22nd, 2004, 09:59 AM
Not always. We still have more trails planned for this year so we have some scouting, flagging and cutting to do. A lot of that happens on Saturdays.

I will be putting together a weekday ride starting around 6 o'clock in a couple of weeks. I put the schedule in Singletracks. I don't remember if it was Tuesdays or Wednesdays?

I won't be backpacking this weekend (no camping unless there is a cot to sleep on for this oldbroad), so I'll take you up on your invite. I was going to ride Yudicky, but DSF looks like fun. Will the Play Ground be on the adgenda?

antonio
July 22nd, 2004, 01:15 PM
hey, thanks for the invite! i'll be there, so that makes three. if you can't make it cuz of the weather just add on to this thread early saturday. i'll check it before i head out.

i fell at cutler park in needham, on a short downhill section that leads to the main fireroad. again, nothing tough, not even for a newbie, just a bad idea to do when exhausted AND a newbie. bad combo.

MTBME

I have no problems with Sunday mornings. It mixes things up a bit. Besides sometimes Saturdays get rained out or we might be doing trail maintenance on Saturdays. So stay tuned, we'll get you in there.

I'm going down to Dracut, gonna have myself a time
Freindly faces everywhere, humble folks without temptation
Going down to Dracut, gonna leave my woes behind
Ample parking day or night, people spouting "Howdy Biker"
Heading up to Dracut, gonna see if i can't unwind
"i like bikes with big ol' forks, i like bikes not made for dorks"
Come on down to Dracut and meet some friends of mine

I went in early in the morning, must have missed you.

Yeah, keep your eyes on the weather. Some reports have the rain moving in earlier than first thought. If there is a steady rain falling, I will just cancel to another time.
