From Kingdom Trails' Executive Director:

Fellow Riders,

Following is a description of Kingdom Trails participation in National Trails Day. We will be rehabilitating one of our most popular and challenging trails, Dead Moose Alley. We invite you to join us in this effort. Volunteers will work in the morning, enjoy a free lunch and will receive a free day pass. Come help us out and be rewarded with some of the best mountain biking in the east!

KINGDOM TRAIL ASSOCIATION HOSTS NATIONAL TRAILS DAY EVENT

Kingdom Trail Association (KTA) is planning a volunteer trail workday to celebrate National Trails Day. The event will occur Saturday, June 5th beginning at 9:00 a.m. Participants are to meet at the Burke Mountain Mid-Burke Lodge in East Burke and bring their favorite hand tool (pruners, loppers, shovel, handsaw etc.). Kingdom Trails plan to rehabilitate the treadway on one of its more popular trails, Dead Moose Alley, as well as establish a new singletrack mountain bike trail near the ski area. The entire community is invited to attend. Following the trail work (9a.m. -12p.m.), Kingdom Trails will provide a barbecue for all participants. Tim Tierney, KTA’s executive director says, “Your hard work will be greatly appreciated and it is guaranteed you will enjoy the reward of accomplishment and camaraderie.”

Now in its tenth year, Kingdom Trails has been recognized by local and regional publications such as Boston Magazine, Vermont Life, National Geographic Adventure, BIKE, Bicycling, Dirt Rag, Sports Afield, Mountain Bike, The Boston Herald, The Boston Globe, Mens’ Journal, Hooked on the Outdoors Magazine and Vermont Sports Today. Kingdom Trails was established as a non-profit organization by a group of visionary residents and area business leaders with the goal of encouraging recreational use of the Northeast Kingdom that is both ecologically sensitive and promotes the natural beauty of Vermont’s least developed region. Kingdom Trails has grown to oversee over 100 miles of multi-use non-motorized recreational trails. Major support for this effort has come from private landowners, local businesses and the community. A $25.00 Kingdom Trails membership fee provides members with a seasonal trail map, updates on association news and events, and access to over one hundred miles of recreational trails (subject to seasonal restrictions). The organization will make available 25 kilometers of groomed Nordic ski trails this winter on Darling Hill.

National Trails Day is coordinated nationally by American Hiking Society, a national, non-profit trail organization, and locally by Kingdom Trail Association. In addition to Kingdom Trails’ event, thousands of similar events will be held across the country including 12 other trail outings here in Vermont.
