Tree down at GBF

I didn't check again while I was there tonight because I did a different loop.. but last night there was a smallish tree down across the long boardwalk on Tophet Loop. I couldn't muscle it out of the way by myself.. at least, not without landing in the water. It looks like bow saw material.

Unfortunately it's sitting at a really inconvenient height.. It's a little too low to easily duck under and way too high to ride over.

I removed it Friday morning

Mission was almost unsuccessful, the skeeters tried to carry me away!

Since this tree needed a real saw, we called the ranger beforehand to make sure it was OK to go in and remove it. Naturally, he said yes.

For next Saturday's Tomac Trail Care Day @ Great Brook, we'll be finishing phase I of the new singletrack trail. Even if you've never built trail before, we'd love a hand putting this in.

We'll be meeting at the XC Ski center @ 8:15am and start promptly at 8:30. We'd do lunch and a ride after -- hopefully riding the new trail!
