I potsed this on MTBR.com as well, sorry for any redundancy, but just figured I would see what N.E has to say.

I think King hubs are top notch for XC use and I love the pair I have now. I am getting into lighter duty freeriding and would really like to stick with a King hub. Are they common in this realm? What is the worst done to them out there and do they hold up?

they will be fine, regardless if you are using teh QR or 20mm front. rear will be fine too; the ring drive is bombproof. plenty of trials riders use 'em (w/ the steel freehub body, to minimize the cassette body digging into it) w/o any problems.
