George Street Bike Challenge

George and Main streets, Worcester, MA
See how fast you can pedal up George Street, a 500-foot quad-buster where 1899 world cycling champ Major Taylor ("the Worcester Whirlwind") used to train. The grade averages 18 percent. It's one rider at a time against the clock in this uphill time trial, the third annual George Street competition presented by Barney's Bicycle and the Seven Hills Wheelmen. Entry fee is $15. Barney's will raffle off a mountain bike. Proceeds benefit the Major Taylor Association.
