Damn! It's raining. >:(

Today is the day when the parks in the Boston area open up for mountain bike business. The winter ban at the Middlesex Fells, Blue Hills and Lynn Woods end today. It has been a pretty good spring so the trials will be in pretty good shape...once it stops raining! I know it will be hard to avoid the parks this weekend so I wouldn't even ask anybody to do that. It is supposed to 80 degrees on Monday (believe it when I see it). Use your common sense when heading out to the trails. Even if it stops raining this morning the trails will need at least a day or so to dry out. Even then there will be mud. Remember. Go through the mud not around it. It is better to get a little dirty then to make the trails 8' wide at every wet spot. Besides, a little dirt will make you look less like a woos as you parade with all that new bike gear you got last Christmas and haven’t had a chance to use yet.

Have fun out there and ride responsibly.

Yeah, be responsible.
Unless you disagree with that, then ride wherever, whenever, however you feel like.
NEMBA will still accept you.

Bill, you are a good conscience and bring balance, but...

First, I don't think that's what Tom said. It's up to each of us to assess trail conditions and ride (or not ride) so that there is minimal impact.

Second, pragmatic leadership will get us a lot further than ignoring the situation on the ground.

Remember Voltaire: "The perfect is the enemy of the good."

Living in Dorchester and commuting to Dedham through the Blue Hills I get a first hand look before most on how things look.

Road my road bike in this morning and the water is still running pretty heavy off of the Blue Hills (roads in and around the Blue Hills are very wet with run-off).

Conclusion: If you plan to ride in the Blue Hills this weekend, strongly encourage (if not plead with you) to hold-off till Sunday. Weather will still be god and it will give those beautiful woods just one more precious day to releive themselves.
