Hey NembaMembas,
Anybody know what kind of shape 'Nam is in?
FYI: Rode Dogtown Saturday and it's in great shape. Of course we stayed mostly on fire roads and such over by the Whale's Jaw but still... really dry for early April.

I rode there Thursday night. It has its usual wet spots, but other than that it's good. Can't wait for some trail work to begin there though (May?) There are some sections you'll have to walk through because of some logging. Would I be in chit's creek if I brought my chainsaw and cleared some of the trees that were downed but never taken away?

Is there an agreed-upon standard of care?
For instance, when would you leave a log crossing as a challenge? If you leave it, do you add logs to ease the transition? What about a log diagonally across the trail? If you leave the challenge, do you create an alternate thread for less accomplished riders?
No answers, just questions.

The logs that were left there are not a challenge. They are down trees, around 50 of them. You'll see the next time you are there. A pro trials rider might get over them.

I usually like to get rid of new fallen trees. Leave the originals in place. Everybody's already use to them. When too many trees are down, it's too much stop and go. I like to get my momentum up and trees just get in the way.

hehe, yah, trees always seem to be a real momentum killer, especially if you crash into them head-on.
ever crashed into a tree and knock it over, all in the same impact? i have ;D

I think I can go one better.
Was on a steep downhill and buried the front wheel, sending me over the bars. I jumped them, but was about to take a really huge fall. I ran right into a small pine that swayed with my weight, bent a lot, then rebounded back up, standing me gently upright again. The soft needles did no damage. Somthing like a personal air bag.
That is NOT my usual luck.

As a side note...
Nam is always rideable.
7X24 .... 365.
Every weekend someone is riding it.
Might as well be you.
All the different weather and conditions simply add character to the same ole trails. Just go for it. ;)
Trees have saved me more than hurt me, as well.
I consider them as trail guardrails. ;)
