seeing how opening day for blue hills is the 15th, has anybody hiked around there to see how the trails are? i figure cause the rockiness, it wouldn't be too bad, but there's usually some washout grooves early in the season

This is home field for me. I ride from my house. BH drains perfectly. The only potential harm here is with frost heaves which have not been a factor for over a month. MDC (old name) is a bit overprotective using 4/15, but I comply. Hit it for sure after you file your taxes on Friday. Ironically, I rode Lynn Woods on opening day last year.
Better than Fenway opening day.

Blue Hills my backyard as well.
Pretty wet in flat sections and some trails with vertical have been converted to stream beds as of late.
A few blow-downs (fallen logs) in places so be careful whipping around a blind curve. A few wash-outs as well, but nothing you can't get around.
As I posted in another area - would wait till this Sunday (4/18) to ride as there is still a lot of water draining off the hills.

got out to ride today, about 15 miles throughout the bluehills. the trails i went on still had a few mud spots but were overall very rideable. there are a few runoff ditches that could cause some problems if you hit them the wrong way, but it's still very rideable, just make sure to ride through the mud/puddles and not around them.
i went around the advanced loop, then up te service road to the tower, down coon hollow, then the intermedate loop. i think the marked loops have been changed from the last bluehills mtb day, but they very nice.
