A NEW CHILDREN'S BOOK about 1899 world bicycling champion Marshall W. "Major" Taylor will be featured at a book-signing and drawing demonstration April 16 in the Saxe Room at the Worcester Public Library.
Meet Lesa Cline-Ransome and James E. Ransome of Rhinebeck, N.Y., author and illustrator of "Major Taylor, Champion Cyclist" (Simon & Schuster, 2004). The Ransomes will show slides about their creative work, explain the book-making process, give a drawing demonstration with audience participation, and sign copies of their book.
Learn how "the Worcester Whirlwind" fought racial prejudice on and off the bike to become "The Fastest Bicycle Rider in the World."
"Major Taylor, Champion Cyclist" is suited for ages 6 to 10.
"An appealing, accessible biography" -- Publishers Weekly
Autographed copies of the book will be available for $15. Proceeds will benefit the Major Taylor Association, Inc., which plans to put up a statue of Major Taylor at the Worcester Public Library. Major Taylor posters also will be available.
