Just saw this:

User Fees to be Levied on All Mountain Bike Product Sales

APRIL 01, 2004 -- SACRAMENTO, CA (BRAIN)-- The Outdoor Recreation Industry (ORI) reports that it supports a 50% tariff placed on all mountain bike-related products that was part of the recent re-authorization package of the Transportation Efficiency Act. The fees collected would subsidize a new Homeland Security program of police to monitor public trail systems near water supplies for terrorist activity. In addition to protecting water resources, the security guards will be equipped with radar equipment to be used to control the maximum speed of offroad cyclists to 8 mph.

According to ORI representative, Kevin Galvin, "we understand the impact that this will have on some recreational cyclists, but these are difficult times that require difficult decisions and compromises."

The 11th hour agreement blindsided both the bicycle industry and cycling advocates, and no comments were available as of 8pm, March 31st.

Look for more breaking news later today, but it is felt by many that this could have a crippling economic effect on the bicycle industry.

That sounds just assinine enough to be true in California.

Its about time! I only hope the tariff can be increased to 100%. Maybe 150% for XTR parts. And maybe 200% for any purple anondized parts. Mountainbikers have been suckling at the teat of entitlement for way too long. I'm glad some law makers have finally got the courage to get us to pay our fair share.

Yeah, the 50% tariff gave it away. April fools!!

Did anyone hear WAAF this morning? They were trying to convince people Hillman and the crew had been kicked off the air for saying nipple or something like that. It seemed like an poorly written script when I was listening at home and then remembered on the way to work that it was April 1st! They almost got me...

If anything P.K. .Your post brought BigGame and Gungywump out to play for a day! Wasn't sure if they were gone for good. Thought they switched over to the gay marriage forum?

Evil!

I thought when we all bumped into each other at the Blue Oyster we agreed to keep that 'Our little secret'. Now, Big Game is definately not going to let you pitch at the park next week. ;)

I admire you Gungy.

First of all, you are surely inviting a full-blown attack from the rainbow inquisition for splaying such a homoerotically-charged dig. Congrats.

Second, you yourself take quite hit on you little barb. See, the idea behind an insult to make yourslef feel good by making someone else feel bad. But what with what you implied, you could have only made yourself feel bad as well.

Don't feel bad Gungy, you're back on the forum and you're with people who love you.

I commend your "type-first think-later" spirit.

That is not because of the above news, this is due to Studdering John signing on with Leno.

Big Game,
Where as you do make some interesting points I think you should re-examine the crux of my post. See, I could have rebutted EVIL and made some insensitive remarks about his accusations. Instead I (comfortable with my hetero-sexual self) decided that the better tact was a tastful response that was aimed to make EVIL the butt(no pun intended) of his own joke. In the course of doing this I thought I might also throw a little more mudd in your pile (notice how I subtly made you the 'pitcher') and, thereby turn a joke aimed at you and I into a joke about you and EVIL. I would also like to point out that I only went with you to the Blue Oyster for a beer because you said there were alot of hot women there. What you and EVIL were there for is your own business. ;)

As a side note: I would like to congratulate EVIL for how far he has come in the past year. I remember when he posted his very first post about riding with his son. The post was more like a passing thought than a completed idea. I gave him some sh*t and he got mad. Now, he has been here long enough to know how things work and he didn't hesitate to launch a steamy flame against Big Game and myself even though neither of us has posted much in the last 6mo. or so. Nice job EVIL!!

Heard aonther one as I shared PK's absurd spoof. The gist of it was that there was a congressional proposal to levy a gasoline excise tax as a way to stave off predicted price increases forecasted for this summer. Tax roadies based on the size of their quads.
