Anyone up for a second annual Bear Brook Roast and Ride ? ??? Seems to me everyone enjoyed it last year, and even though 'Nam has been purchased, there must be other things a fund raiser could benefit within NEMBA. And if there's no interest in a fund raiser, how about an "informal" Bear Brook forum event? There's plenty of good riding there, and you can string togther a 20-30 mile ride if desired. :P Maybe even Bill would be master chef and fire jumper. :o Let's here your $.02

You know I'm Down with that! ;D
First question is WHEN? Picking a good date is important and tricky!

Could be tons of fun.
I recommend keeping it a really low key forum event. Last year's roast was a super event, but it turned out to be an inordinate amount of work for David Swift.
Personally, I'd recommend a place like Kingdom Trails. People could stay at the campground and ride from there. There would be no hassles with permits and all of that.
When you pick a date, please don't pick one of the Harpoon MTB Adventure dates--you can find these listed on NEMBA's events page.

I have heard the Kingdom has some sweet riding. The only problems I see with it, is it is way up into god's country, and there is a RM event there allready this year.
Bear Brook = easy drive after work on Friday for most people who will attend, and decent riding right from the tent. One other location to throw into the mix would be the (Kanc) Whites. 8)

Who is supplying the pig? Damn that was tasty last year.
I know that last years event didnt raise a ton of money and it was lots of work for dave so perhaps a informal event would be best. I agree that Bear Brook is great because it's close to many people.

Do Bear Brook sometime in the summer & the Whites in the early fall when the leaves are ready for peeping.

R&R.
That was a hellava time.
Chance to meet some Nemba legends. ;)
Remember Z bringing us down the chipmunk trail?
Great quote "You would have to be nuts to take this trail!"
Bill and Mark shared pajamas....err, I mean a tent.
Remember the couple on tandem from CA or somewhere?
Good fun.
I'll be vacationing myself the last 2 weeks in July, so I may miss the next one.
Hope you do it ...great riding there.

I'd love to do it again. The muffler on my Westy is even louder than last year, but my pivots don't squeak anymore.
Timing is always difficult - I'm bringing the family to Moab at the end of April and may be going to Vancouver at the end of June.

So far... Looks like Bear Brook. Holiday weekends will be tough for most people.
How about the weekend of June 12th or 19th? Anyone have a preference? Both are early in the season, and the campground should be less crowded. Show up Friday, long ride Sat, and a 2nd ride Sunday after check-out. ;D

That was a great weekend - so much fun riding and meeting everyone.
I'd be up to do it again if the date was right!

I enjoyed the time i spent with all my NEMBA friends. Even with the uncertainty in my life i was able to attend 3 sleep over bike events last year. I even rode my bike at 1 of them. God Bless my wife.
My situation remains unchanged. The cumulative effects of the past year and the future looking to bring no relief, preclude my planning attendance at any events. Jeannine encourages me to go but I am unable to quell the feelings of guilt associated with taking " me time" while she bears the full burden of our family responsibility. Still I remain hopeful. I may yet be able to join you. Somewhere, sometime, look to my coming, at first light look to the east, and smell the bacon.
Think about me when you are walking around that log you should be hoping, or when you are heating up hot dogs on sticks :P .

Bill,
I hope you'll be able to get to one weekend overnight event somewhere sometime. You are a great guy and a great NEMBA ambassador as well.
How's the Palomino by the way??
Hope all is well sir!
Take care,

I'd like to attend an 04 R&R. My schedule is shaping up to be real busy, so I'll just hope the R&R fits into it.

The 12th will be bad for a lot of people cuz we're having a big NEMBA leadership summit that weekend.
But I'm psyched about the idea.
I agree with Philip, we can get 80% of the fun with 20% the work by keeping it somewhat low-key. But I think David did a GREAT job last year!
Another benefit of Bear Brook is that no one will have to re-plan the routes. They were awesome last year! Although I'd be up for Kingdom trails, too.
And I am sure we can arrange to have something in the Whites later in the season, too... why break 4 years of tradition? :)

IAB - the R&R was a fantastic time last year, great company, great riding, great good and great conversations and memories......and great big mosquitos too! :o :o
Seriously it was one of the highlights of 2003 for me.
Got to meet a ton of great people including Todd, Radair, Z, Joe, AA, NOO, the IMBA couple (Jim and Cathy was it?), Slomojo, Fattire Freak (is that his handle) FS Steve - I think he was still hardtail steve back then. Ms. AA of course Justbill ( but I had already met him once) Oldbroad, NHiker etc. etc.
It was a great event.
Something similar but more low key sounds like it would be equally fun.
Just curious but are they any plans for some type of special Vietnam NEMBA ride or weekend in the works?

So...What's a better weekend for everyone ? The week of June 5th, or the 19th? I imagine June will be the best month, as once July gets here there's lots of stuff going on, and campsites are tougher to get. Low key shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure everyone can bring their own food. A "unofficial" NEMBA forum event. ;D
Bear Brook could also be done (Bill) on Saturday as a day trip.

The weekend of the 19th is Mt Snow if that is a factor for anyone.

Well it looks like everyone enjoyed the R&R... and you want to come back!!! Great, as PK suggested keeping it low key avioding perimts and hassles is the best way to go, besides I've lost my #1 allie with mtnbikes, in B.B. Marty the park manager has retired, I am looking forward to meeting his replacement, but anyone who is NOT taking part inany other NEMBA events in May there is massive trail building project right next door to B.B., Pawtuckaway St. Park, after three years in the making finnaly a two mile trail is going to happen! we'll need lots of hands, wannna be part of something big!!

Personally I stopped caring about mt snow about 10 years ago, but that's me :)
I think I'm free on the 19th but most definitely not on the 5th. Let us know what works for the most people and I'll put it in my calendar! I hope I can make it!
