Anyone else ride this weekend?
My friend Beth called this morning and said there was a fat tire road ride at 11 in Lyneborough, 13 miles or so. Lyneborough is sort of hilly, but 13 miles is easy, sounds like fun, so I say OK.
What I did not take into account is that most of the roads in Lyneborough are not paved. And, it rained last night (on top of the 4” of snow from the day before). It was like riding on paste! There were big signs posted at the intersections “MUD. Pass at your own risk.” We all so splattered by the end we looked like muddy Jason Pollock paintings!
There are some big a$$ hills out that way! There was this one great big long one, one of those hills that each time you think you’re at the top, it is just a bend in the road, and there is more friggen’ hill; Beth and I were saying to each other “ DON’T STOP!” It was brutal.
There was another one that was like riding the inside of a V. You go zooming down, & the other side is so steep, as you look up all you can see is road. But luckily, the uphill was one of the few paved sections, and we had a good head of steam, so it was not too bad a climb.
And, the reward for all the climbing was a fantastic down hill! It had to be a mile, or more, long. Swoopy, curvy, paved (!) with a couple real steep spots, and being in the boonies, no cars. Very sweet. ;D ;D ;D The guys went roaring down, 37 mph according to one. Beth and I were a bit more careful.
It wound up being a good ride though of 14.7 not so easy miles. (But as a wise sage once said: Any ride is a good ride. ;)) Amen.

I didn't get out for a "real" ride this weekend. I did get out both yesterday and today behind my house. There's a really short (~1.5 Mile) loop out there. My wife likes to run, so we went out and did 3 miles or so both days.
Yesterday was very tough. I had to walk most inclines because of the 2-4" of snow. Today was much better, we brought the camera along today and she snapped some shots. The ground was amazingly firm.

this weekend was ok beacuse the snow is melting on my trails. I built a teeter totter in my backyard last week to add to my trail. I tried to ride it today, but it didnt work because my tires were slippin out on the wood. O well, the snow will be all gone and everything will be fine in a few days, so itll be all good by then! :)

Nice ride report OB. :) Agreed - at this point it's good just to get the hell out of the house. Never heard of Lyneboro before...
No riding but the skate sking was pretty good this weekend.. Plenty of snow left and it's REALLY fast.

Put in a hour on the new Reebok spin bike I set up in the barn. Not like the real thing, but it'll do in a pinch.
If anyone is considering one, I like the Reebok a lot. Sturdy, smooth, highly adjustable, and, discounted at $499, a great buy compared to the Schwinn. Those are the only real players in the spin niche.
Nice and cold last night - I bet the trails are primo right now.

I'm not in the loop on this stuff, but I saw the LeMond RevMaster last night and it looks like a top-of-the-line. Of course, it costs that as well.

Forgot about the Lemond. I did see one of those and they're very nice. Even more stiff than the Reebok.
Couldn't get past the price, though. Roughly twice the cost of the Reebok.

Never heard of Lyneboro before...
Lyneboro NH..North-West of Wilton, which is west of Milford, which is west of Nashua.
If that helps any. :)

The Lyneboro trail description reminded me of the old Hillsboro race. Miles and miles of fire road rollercoaster, with some serious downhill speed, broken up nicely with technical single track.
The race is gone, but not forgotten. At least I think it is gone. Anyone know for sure?

Reborn? Maybe. Word from James is that there will be a fun ride this summer with a good portion of the old classic course with maybe a 50 mile race in 2005.

Keep us posted!
50 miles kinda scares me, tho. The old 30 miler was just about my limit, and that was what, six years ago?
Here in Ashford, CT, my ride bud Brian is building a course on his campground, and already has two races scheduled there, one of them a 24 hour job. As I told him, I'm ready for the hot tub after the three hour mark.
Well, maybe that Reebok spin bike can take a few years of these tired legs...

Rode into Middlebury Sunday on gravel and pavement, came part of the way back on the Trail Around Middlebury, had a nice flat tire followed by a good slog back into a head wind and freezing rain.

I remember one year when Don Myrah did the 30 miles in 2 hours, that was flyin'.

Well, at 2:59, I was less than an hour behind. Of course, I'd have won if I hadn't flatted. ;-)

Damn Slider you ought to try using tools to change those flats ;D could reduce your change time to maybe 10 or 15 minutes. ;)
