umm, i know this probably isnt the best way to do it but here it goes.

my rear brake is a little messed up. i was cleaing the bike yesterday and when i went to spin the back wheel, it barely moved. i looked at the brake [v-brake] and i noticed the pads werent on the rim.

if im looking at it as the rear wheel at my feet, the left side pad is about lying on the wheel and the right pad is tightly on the rim. i have xt brakes.

now, im not great at all this bike fixing stuff yet, im still learing so, how would i go about fixing it?

thank you

first of all, you contradict yourself. you say the pads aren't on the rim then you say a pad is tightly against the rim.

possible solution, make sure all cable housing/noodles are properly seated. this would work if your pads are alinged, the cable is just pulled real tight. check and make sure the brake springs are seated as well. as you were cleaning your bike, you may have pulled on a housing and unseated it from the cable stops on the frame.

if the pads aren't lined up with the rim, then you have to readjust them (center on the rim and toe them in) and readjust cable tension. this shouldn't be too hard, considering you have xt brakes, i assume you know a bit about basic maintenance or can figure it out.

my first geuss is the cable housing isn't seated in the cable-stops though so check them and the brake noodle, and barrel adjuster on the levers.

Hmmm.
Rear wheel installed in the dropouts all the way?
Is the right side brake spring tucked behind the brake (seated)? Is it even there?(sometimes these break off) refer to the front brake and compare...
