This is the 2nd Year in a row.
riding my Full suspesion Bike in single digit tempertures that I have blown a Coil Over shock.
Both times IT appears cold got to the seals , Midway through a Ride I notice I was leaking oil out of the rear shock , When I got home and the shock warmed up it was no longer leaking oil , but the damage has been done. has lots of play in it now. So beware.

Yep - been there - happened last year about this time to me.
I'm trying a new practice for this winter to see if it makes any difference - turning the rebound damper adjustment on my rear shock down (basically little rebound damping - if at all) my theory is that with the oil a lot thicker at cold temps - the valving is probably better left a little more open for the oil to flow as the shock strokes - hopefully putting less strain on the internals including the already brittle seals...this is the shortcut I've chosen (rather then changing the oil to thinner grade)
I don't know if I have any way of telling whether this will work or not...just experimenting at this point. I'm sure if I emerge from the winter without blowing my shock I'll be making over zealous claims and how to's ;D

The thing is my 2 shocks were both sealed units , can't change t he oil , and once they wormed up the seals must have become soft tan pliable again. but I had already lost a lot of the oil so , now ther eis play in the shock with no way for me to put tmore oil back in them.
