I have the cheapo Performance rollers. I try and ride outside or ski through the winter as much as I can, so I don't really use them a ton. The quality seems fine. I have to get some slicks for this winter, its way too loud with the knobbies on. 45 minutes or an hour on the rollers is a dang good workout. As an added bonus, if your attention drifts even for a few seconds you find yourself going 15mph into the wall.
I've never used the trainer that lifts just your rear wheel, so I can't comment on them.

I have the cheapo Performance kind that locks the front wheel and uses resistance (mag) against the back wheel. It's fine - 8 years old and no problems, though I can't say I use it a whole lot. I'd rather do just about anything outside than ride to nowhere inside. There are more expensive models out there, but I can't imagine any features that would make riding a trainer any less boring.

Me and the wife own a 1upUSA trainer. It is an excellent trainer and gets nothing but great reviews, however it is rather pricey at $300. I think it's durability and smoothness are what make it expensive.

I've got a set of rollers I'd be willing to sell - in good condition. Not a trainer so to speak, but another way to log some miles indoors.
Make an offer. I prefer riding outdoors all winter...
Now, I know this is way out of question for a budget trainer -but cool nonetheless...The new Tacx Virtual Reality Trainer.

Leave it those folks in the Netherlands to create something like this...cool stuff. One of my favorite shops locally (cycleloft) has something similar for two riders - and you can rent time on it with a friend...'gonna try it out as a novelty this winter. Other VR trainers (including the Tacx) have plans in the future for interactive racing via internet, and virtual mountain bike terrains...

IAB,
Do you want to edit your post above after pedalling your arse off with that new playstation bike trainer contraption you purchased??? I heard that MBC was getting worried you were going to break that pricey trainer of yours! LOL ;D

MBC says I am too fat to use the trainer in that sort of capacity! ;D 'Tis true....as I was hammering on the pedals and wrenching the handlebar back and forth, the trainer was coming up off the floor. I think we need to mount the trainer to a sturdy piece of plywood and we'll be ok.
That game unit is really cool though. I was playing "Downhill Mountain Biking" for PS1 last night.
In case anyone is wondering what the heck we're talking about:
