The above story brought me back to 1991. I was in College and a buddy and I were making a late night (early morning) run to get some "munchies" across campus on our Mt. Bikes. Well we took a short cut down a one way road (going the wrong way) and sure enough we got pulled over by the local police. We each got a ticket for $58. I went to court and got it reduced to about half that. I remember the cop telling me.....you're lucky I don't give you a breathalyzer......... gee thanks >:(

Anyone else been cited for a vehicle violation on their bike?

On 9/11/01, I was flying down Mass Ave on my Bianchi just after 9AM, late on my way to work, running every red light. I was waved over by the cop on the street beat at the last intersection before my Central Square office. He gave me a warning in place of what would have been a reasonable ticket.

"I'll make it a warning. There are larger problems in the world," he said as he handed me my copy.

I'd have taken the ticket if it meant the news was less painful. I hadn't heard about the attacks until then.

You hardly ever see a motorist ticketed for running a bike off the road.

Maybe 1967, Hialeah compound in Pusan, Korea, passed an Army MP three quarter ton over a double yellow line while riding a (Schwinn? Columbia?) touring bike that I bought in the PX - the boys weren't amused...
