Bill,
where is this most favorite place of yours??
If I were to be invited for a ride in MA, I could tell the boys' mom of this, and drop them off on Sunday on my way to ride MA with you.
I'll have them Friday night, all day on Saturday and Saturday night, so I suspect their Mom would like to spend Sunday with them anyway.
Keep me posted.

I am new to this forum, and greater Boston area. I have been dying to ride at Harold Parker, and would love to join up and do a ride there.

Just don't let Bill take you through the overly friendly section. You might see some scary and strange animals frolicking in the wood.

Is that what i think it means?

Dont let the evil one scare you off Greg.
I have re-visited the area he refers to many times since we rode there one fine summer afternoon. Despite my obvious availability and some creative riding attire, I have been unable to garner the degree of attention we recieved that day together. I must therefore admit you were right Evil, they were'nt interested in me after all.

p.s. over 100 views of this thread and only 1 interested rider. Tell the truth, its the jeans right?

Greg,
Don't be alarmed. Bill kept me save from that area of the woods that day. Though I did get alittle nervous when he said" In this section pedal as fast as you can and don't look back. I will slow down when its ok". After that the riding was great.
Have fun ;D

I am game for whatever kind of ride, slow pace fast pace, spooky, or whatever.
I like someone saying "don't look back and pedal very fast through this section." on a new ride.
Sunday when where, I am sure I can find my way to HP

Lets make this a late morning start, 10am, unless i hear from the Conn. crew. Or maybe even if i do hear from them then i can do a really long loop and pick them up on the second lap after lunch, whatever. Meet at the parking lot on the left past the tin shed. Get there by turning on to Harold Parker road off rte125 (State Police barracks). When you get to the lake on the right, then its the next lot on the left.

Hey Bill,
HP sounds good to me. I am riding Gilbert Hill (foxboro) on saturday, but HP on sunday at 10 am sounds good to me. For health reasons however, I may not be able to make it.

Bill,
Will I be ok on your ride?
Im not sure if you have all expert riders coming, and don;t want to be out of place, if its too advanced for me.

Fred,
Come along, i posted easy pace and that is what it will be. I got the broken frame and others respondents are riding hard Saturday so are looking for a tour not a race on Sunday.
There is always an easy bail to the cars no matter how far we get into the ride at HP. Just bring snacks ,OK?

Bill is an amazing ride leader isn't he!
Hey Bill did you use the shock today? If you did, your thoughts on it's performance please! :-)
Sorry to have missed the ride, but that was a long drive to make after hockey.
Had a great ride today with IAB and MBC at Case Mountain!! What amazing weather!!! ;D

That was a good ride. Thanks for coming along. 4-1/2 hours is a little long and now that the rear wheel is moving 2" right on the pedal down stroke i guess i will have to retire the busted frame.
Mark- The propedal shock worked great. I noticed the difference immediately. I tried to make it bob on the street but was unable to do so. Greg said he was watching it as i rode trail and noted the reaction on small bumps. I mounted the 750lb spring from my old vanilla in order to make an accurate comparison. The action uphill and railing turns was similar to the float. Firm pedaling and able to pump out of the corner. I did take the bike off a few drops (3'+/-) and down the stairs (7-landing-9) and did bottom out. I set the rebound 2 clicks slower then the middle. On the ride on a rocky decent i noticed the shock bottoming again about 2/3 to the bottom of the hill. I decided to move the rebound to 2 clicks quicker then medium. This solved the bottoming on multi- hit but not on drops. I guess the large volume released when that propedal valve lets go needs that 900lb spring to balance the movement. I would try it out if i thought i could ride the bike without having the rear wheel break off and hit me in the head. It's too bad too cause if they decide to replace the frame with a new Palomino then the shock will not be transferable.

Dee- Harold Parker is located off rte 114 and 125 in North Andover. It has a lot in common with wompatuck. Both are around 4000 acres, feature man made ponds, small hills, and camping. Wompy has the benefit of well marked trails and a private access road. The major difference is in the ground. HP is an old stone quarry and fish hatchery. Almost all the trails are along some water element. The soils are soft loam or rocks and the unwritten policy of the North Shore chapter is "never remove a blow down" or so it would seem. The official DEM trail map shows none of the single track, and there are no plans to change that or to mark the trails although the NSchapter has petitioned to do so. There is plenty of double track for the novice as well.

Here's oldslodoggie on the stone steps along the terry trail. I've learned that under cover of darkness or leaves a newbie will try almost anything. And without his clipless shoes too.

I need to learn how to set the shutter speed for quick guys like Greg.
November 3rd, 2003, 11:44 PM
paul is about 6'tall, the rock is wet, and greg is making the quick(vertical) line look easy.
November 3rd, 2003, 11:51 PM
Paul did an excellent job on the Ti soft tail. 3/4" is enough travel right?

Bill,
I was sorry to see that crack in your frame, knowing I had just sent you that shock.
Would you rather have your current frame or would you prefer a Palamino? Too bad Klein doesn't make a little burlier bike for the likes of you. That would be your ideal bike I bet.
I bet you can find another buyer for the shock if indeed you do get a shiny new Palomino. Do they make em in Blue? ;D

Nice write up and photos Bill.
Hey if you do get stuck with that nifty new Pro-pedal shock, I know someone who would take it off your hands. Wink Wink.
