View Full Version : What's that noise?

I've started to get this frustrating noise from my drivetrain, it's a click whenever the left crankarm gets to (about) the top of it's rotation. I've removed and greased the BB (inside and out), removed/cleaned the cassette replaced (with lube on the freehub), removed and cleaned the chainrings. The chain is relatively new (suspect?) I've inspected the rings, there does not seem to be any issues. The noise happens in any chainring....was intermittent at first, but is now more common...usually under higher cadence.
Anyone got some suggestions, or do I just use this as an excuse to replace the entire drivetrain? ???

It might not be the drivetrain. Do you ride with SPDs? Worn cleats will do something like that...

Yeah...I looked into this too...and got some new pedals....just put on a set of time z's.....no change.
But...now that you mention it....could it be the plate in the shoe?? Or some wear has begun to interfere???? The shoes are getiing on in age....I'll rip them open and see what is up there.
Thanks for the input!

Is this a full suspension bike? If so, there's more than a few possibilities in the pivots, etc.

I tried it all...repacked all the bearing of the suspension..everything....still a click. >:(
Because of a suggestion I got yesterday at NEMBA Fest, I removed the front deralieur and greased that.....
NO MORE CLICK!
Amazing what can cause such an aggrvivating noise on a bike!
Thanks for the help.
