Please allow myself to introduce... myself...
My name's Mike, I live in Franklin NH, and ride both road and mtb. Been riding bikes all my life, but mtn biking since '95. I have an old '95 steel frame Trek mtn bike that I use for winter riding / commuting, a 2000 Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Comp mtn bike that I ride and race locally, and a 2003 Scattante R-650 road bike that I just got last month.
I've tried a few different cycling forums in the past, but there always seems to be a "click" of people that post like 200 times a day (don't they have jobs?), and I've yet to find a place where you really feel welcome. Hopefully this will be the place, and I can stop looking!
Anyway, just wanted to say hi. If anyone lives nearby and wants to hook up for a ride I'm always looking for someone to ride with!!!

Adam, I absolutely love it! It can be hard to make sure a road bike fits you properly without riding it, so mail ordering a bike made me a little nervous. What I did was find a bike that fit me really well, then I just made sure the frame geometry of the R-650 was what I needed. I ended up with the 60cm frame, and figured that even if I needed to replace the stem to get the exact fit, I still made out like a bandit getting a full Ultegra / Aluminum frame w/ carbon fork / 19 lb bike for $995, and that was with a free Bell Ghisallo helmet!!! The bike came in perfect condition, and even had a little bottle of touch up paint in the box! It came mostly assembled, but I went through it top to bottom to make sure every bolt was tight (I highly recommend this step - I found a few things that needed tweaking).
For the good stuff... The bike is soooooo smooth, light, and responsive. It's like your floating on air (well, when you hit a bump you really feel it, but when you're on smooth pavement it's like floating on air). I'm still not completely used to the shifting, but I'm getting better. I was worried that the frame and wheels might flex alot since I'm 6'3"- 205 lbs., but the bike is amazingly stiff. I still don't really care for riding around traffic either, but when I get it out on the back roads it's really sweet. The nice thing about a road bike is when you get done a ride, all you have to do is lube the chain and put it away. Usually when I get done a mtn bike ride / race, I'm muddy and bleeding, and my bike is either broken or needs a few hours of TLC. I certainly won't ever give up riding off road, but it's really nice to have the option now.
Bottom line is that I would highly recommend this bike, just make sure you get sized up properly first.
Later,
-Mike
