I endoed last night and broke the Hayes master cylinder right off the handlebar. No fluid leaked out and I was able to duct tape it in place and ride out.

Do I need a whole new lever assembly or can I get the lever body and swap the internals to the new part??? I saw some Hayes parts on a few sites and the complete lever with master cyl. was $104. I'm not too familiar with them so I'm probably better off letting the LBS handle it anyway??

Also, it seems like I can get a complete Avid mech. for less than that. Any ideas are much appreciated.

have your bike shop order you a resivour body. You don't want to replace the nice Hayes brakes with cable actuated ones. I've used both, well on a buds bike, yeah the cable ones work good, but hydraulic is the way to go as far as I'm concerned. You can fix it yourself. replace the resivour body and bleed. If you need help bleeding, yell, it's a piece of cake. A blindfolded monkey could do it. Knuck

Thanks Knuckles. After a little more research I figured it out. I'm going to order the housing and a bleed kit and a new compression fitting.
