I did the Vermont 50 mile race this past Sunday and it turned into a mudbath and a very long day. A byproduct of the conditions is that everybody was losing their brakes.
I've got Avid mechanical discs on a SC Superlight and seemed to lose mine around mile 35 or so. Gone. Little or nothing with some pretty ugly noises.
I took the pads out tonight and started laughing. On the rear brakes, not only were the pads worn out, but about half the metal part of the pad is gone, too.
So, are the rotors OK? They must be trashed, right?
I haven't had a chance to get a ride in with new pads, but I'm curious what's going to happen.
